Chapter 4 - The King’s Shadow

Location: Kingdom of Korea – Eastern Capital, Seoul

Dephnie stumbled through the unfamiliar city, her head spinning.

Neon lights blinked in Hangul—but the symbols weren't the same. Soldiers in sleek black uniforms patrolled the streets, and instead of a Republic flag, banners with a golden dragon waved from every building.

This wasn't South Korea.

This was Korea.

She looked up at the high-speed monorail floating above her. On the display board:"Next stop: Gwanghwamun Royal Station – Forbidden Palace"

Just then, a siren blared. A security drone hovered above her.

"Unregistered citizen. Halt and identify."

Dephnie backed into the alleyway, panic rising in her chest.

Footsteps echoed behind her.

Before she could run, a firm hand pulled her into the shadows.

A man in dark robes, his hair tied in traditional Korean fashion, towered over her. His eyes were sharp, intelligent... dangerous.

"You crossed from the other side," he said calmly.

Dephnie froze. "How do you know that?"

He didn't answer. Instead, he took out a golden coin with a strange emblem—half lion, half phoenix.

"This is your key to survive here." He pressed it into her hand. "Find the King before they find you."

"Who are you?"

He only smiled. "A shadow of the throne."

And like smoke, he vanished.

Location: Royal Palace of Korea – Throne Room

Lee Gon stood in silence, reading through the recovered prophecy scrolls.

"Two lights born under twin moons. One from flame. One from logic.Their meeting awakens the Divide.Only one throne survives."

He clenched his jaw.

Captain Joo Won entered cautiously. "Your Majesty… she's crossed."

"I know," Lee Gon replied, eyes distant.

"She is not from this world. She may be dangerous."

"Or she may be the only one who understands the Divide better than we do."

Joo Won's expression darkened. "You're putting the kingdom at risk for a woman—"

"She's not just a woman," Lee Gon snapped. "She's the variable. The one the Divide chose."

Location: Korean Underground Resistance Hideout – Secret Library

Dephnie now sat inside a hidden stone library, led there by a resistance member who had seen her golden coin.

Bookshelves reached the ceiling, filled with records of Korean history that never existed in her world.

She ran her fingers across a page that chilled her:

Project Twin Reality: Monarch Lineage EngineeringPrimary Subject: Lee Gon, genetically protected by dimensional armorOpposing Subject: Unknown female from Earth Prime

Her name wasn't listed.

But the drawing next to it…

…it was her face.

Trembling, she looked at the man who had guided her here.

"What is this?"

He looked at her grimly. "You were meant to be his end… or his salvation."

Location: Korean Royal Gardens – Midnight

Lee Gon dismissed the guards and walked alone into the garden, where the sky shone with strange constellations not visible in our world.

He looked up at the twin moons, their silver glow peaceful.

Yet something tugged at his soul—like gravity, only deeper.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps.

He turned—

And there she was.

Standing on the stone bridge under moonlight, wearing a traditional Corean cloak given by the resistance.

They looked at each other.

The world held its breath.

Dephnie: "I think I'm not supposed to be here."

Lee Gon: "Neither am I. But I've waited my whole life for this moment."

Dephnie: "Why me?"

Lee Gon: "Because something wants us to remember what the world forgot."

Location: Corean Secret Council Chamber

Elsewhere, in the dark chambers of the Secret Council, masked figures circled a glowing map of the Divide.

Council Leader: "The variables have met. It has begun."

A dark hand moved a black chess piece shaped like Dephnie.

"Then we must begin our move."

The next piece placed: A knight bearing Lee Gon's crest—cracking down the middle.
