Chapter 4 - fourth child

٤Anonymous Point of View

"Don't leave me alone, please," I said, standing before the wolf that had taken care of me since I first came to the forest.

Four years ago, when I was six, a nobleman and his army attacked the village where I lived. They killed everyone. I was the sole survivor. As I fled, I ran into the forest, and that's where I met him for the first time—a giant, two-meter-tall silver wolf with blue eyes.

"Hello, my name is Rufus," I said nervously.

He started to approach me slowly until he was right in front of me. Then, he licked me with his tongue. Since that day, we have been together. I learned a lot and honed my senses and physical abilities to a great degree. I even made a giant stone sword for hunting. I named the wolf Loki. He could use magic ice. He was a special and powerful beast.

But one day, people in strange black clothes and black masks attacked us. Loki and I were no match for them. Loki was wounded while taking a blow for me. He grabbed me in his mouth, and we escaped, but Loki couldn't handle the bleeding and collapsed to the ground.

"No, Lokiiiiii!" I screamed, crying.

It was only then that I remembered. Two years ago, my body started to glow. My physical abilities and senses dramatically increased, and I gained an ability that I instantly understood. I never expected to use it, but it was necessary.

I placed my hand on Loki's head, and a light began to surround him. He stood up and was slightly smaller, not looking as powerful as before.

My ability is a pact. I can bind my soul with one creature. The stronger I become, the stronger the creature also becomes. I had never used it before. The beast becomes immortal, healing by feeding on my powers, but my powers are limited.

Suddenly, the people who were chasing us appeared. One of them charged at me and powerfully struck the back of my neck with his hand. I fell to the ground, unable to move. My body was extremely exhausted, and Loki disappeared because I needed some concentration to maintain the summons. I didn't pass out easily. I tried to stay conscious to get any information.

"Commander, we have captured the first, second, and third children, and this is the fourth," one of them said.

"That leaves twenty-six then. As soon as we gather all these children, we'll take them to the continent of Nova."

After hearing that, my ability to endure ran out. I knew I had to stay conscious, but I passed out anyway.
