Chapter 6 - WORK WAS DIFFERENT

KHLOE'S POV

When I got home, my mind was still spinning from what happened earlier at the mall. First of all, we went shopping — or so he said — for his friend who, conveniently, was "my size." But then… he gave everything to me. Every single thing.

Like, huh? Make it make sense.

And don't even get me started on the sudden change of plans about her trip.

"This doesn't quite sit right with me... ahh," I muttered, flopping onto my bed with a sigh.

The Next Morning

I was up early, feeling like a whole boss. I took a warm shower, got dressed in trousers, a crisp shirt, and even threw on a tie — just to elevate the look. I grabbed my handbag, had a quick breakfast (coffee and avocado toast), and stepped outside. Jayden, my ever-punctual driver, was already waiting.

"Good morning, Miss Khloe," he greeted with a small smile.

"Morning, Jayden. How was your night?" I asked as I slid into the car.

"It was nice, thank you. And yours must've been splendid," he replied.

I chuckled. "Something like that."

And with that, we were off to work.

---

When I walked into the office, the receptionist greeted me with a smile.

"Good morning, ma."

"Morning. Is Mr. Xavier in yet?" I asked.

"No, ma. He said he'll be coming in late today."

"Oh? Okay, thanks," I replied and made my way to my office.

I sighed as I sat at my desk.

"Hmm, so much work already. Maybe that's why he's running late. Still… he could've told me directly. What's the point of being his secretary if the receptionist finds out before me?"

XAVIER'S POV

Back at home...

"Come on, Mr. Xavier, I'm telling you — this partnership will be great for your company," Mr. Tyler said.

Xavier was seated across from him, but truth be told — his mind wasn't in the room. At all. He wasn't even listening. His thoughts were far away — at the office, or more specifically… on me.

"I should've called Khloe and told her directly, not the receptionist. She's my secretary, not them," he thought.

"I wonder if she liked the clothes… though, they weren't even supposed to be for her, so why would she? Ughhh." He shook his head slightly.

"Mr. Xavier? Mr. Xavier?" Mr. Tyler's voice cut through his thoughts.

"Oh— right. Let's reschedule this meeting. I need to head to the office," Xavier said, standing up.

"We can do that. But maybe next time, let's meet at your office. Seems like you'll be less distracted there," Mr. Tyler said with a smirk.

Xavier gave a small smile. "Fair enough. I'll ask my secretary to check my schedule and get back to you."

"Wait… isn't he your secretary?" Tyler asked, confused.

"She. And no, she's at the office. I'll have her contact you," Xavier corrected.

"Alright then. Just let me know once a date is fixed."

"Will do," Xavier said, and they both stepped out.

Back at the Office

"Good day, sir," Clara greeted as he arrived.

"Same to you," he replied and stepped into the elevator.

Moments later, he was knocking on my door.

Knock knock. "Miss Khloe."

I didn't hear him at first — I was in the bathroom. But the second knock got my attention, and just as I was stepping out, he walked right in.

"Oh— good day, sir," I said, caught a bit off guard.

"I knocked earlier but got no response, so I let myself in. We need to talk," he said.

"Okay, sir."

"I had a meeting this morning with Mr. Tyler at home — that's why I wasn't in earlier. I should've informed you sooner. Anyway, we've decided to reschedule, so I need you to check my calendar, pick a suitable date, and confirm it with his secretary."

"Alright, sir. And I'm sorry I didn't hear you knock — I was in the restroom."

"It's fine. Just let me know once the date is confirmed."

"Yes, sir," I said, and he walked out.

When did he even get here? I muttered to myself.

I pulled up his calendar, chose a date that worked, and called Mr. Tyler's secretary. Thankfully, she agreed, and the new meeting was set.

Later, I knocked on Xavier's door.

"Come in."

I stepped in. "Sir, the meeting's been rescheduled."

"When?"

"Next week Thursday."

"And Mr. Tyler's secretary is fine with it?"

"Yes, sir."

"Alright, thank you."

I was about to leave when he called out again.

"Khloe?"

I turned. "Yes, sir?"

"Can you send me the meeting details by email? Include the time as well."

"Sure, sir."

I returned to my office, typed up the details, and sent them to his inbox.

Work wasn't too stressful today, even though I had a ton of files to compile. Still, by the time I got home...

"Ahhhhh," I let out the biggest sigh as I dropped onto my bed.

I needed rest. I took a warm shower, had dinner with Mom, and later retired to bed. Tomorrow's another day, and I'll need all the energy I can get.
