But it wasn't the mistake that bothered me it was the look on her face, hurt and embarrassed.like she wanted to disappear.
I shouldn't care
I don't care
I ran a hand through my hairs again
it's her first day I told myself.she I'll either toughen up or she won't last
And either way,it wasn't my problem

By the time I reached out front door my keys felt too heavy in my hands.my fingers fumbled at the lock for a second longer than they should 've, and the click of the door bolt releasing sounded louder then usual in the quite hallway
I pushed the door open and stepped inside letting it shut behind me with a dull thud.
"Hey", came a voice from the kitchen.
I turned my head slowly.jake stood there barefoot in sweats and a hoodie holding a spoon and a half eaten tub of cookie dough. He blinked at me
Then his expression shifted. He sat the spoon down quietly
"you okay?" he asked, voice suddenly softer
I tried to say yes really,I did
I'm fine,I said but my voice cracked halfway through.jake moved towards me without a word I felt his arm wrapped around my shoulder
I was shocked cause of the kind gesture cause that's usual of him
Rough day? he asked quietly
I nodded again against his shoulder
let me guess.bossman?
Another nod
Jake sighted.want me to burn his office down or just sneak into his parking garage and slash a trye?
A small, tired laugh escaped me_the first one all day.
I'll warm up dinner.you get changed and don't think about him tonight
I nodded again, quietly grateful

I shut the door, tossed my keys on the counter, and went straight for a glass of Scotch. No ice
Jane Williams.New secretary.Dayone, and she already screwed up the damn copies. Not to talk more of being late.
it wasn't complicated, print, staple, stort.she had one task.
And she handed me the wrong pile of papers like she done me a favor
she smiled when she gave them to me,that nervous smile people wear when they're hoping they did well_hoping you'll notice
I noticed.just not in the way she wanted
polite enough, sharp enough, she needed to learn fast .I don't have time to babysit.
still, something about the way she looked at me_ quite, startled, like she is slapped _stuck longer than it should've
I took a slow sip of scotch
Doesn't matter, she's either tough to keep up,or she isn't
we'll see

The city was crawling, taxi zipping past, people waving them down like it was a game of chance.I wasn't even planning to stop. But then I saw her she stood near the curb, shifting from foot to foot, one hand clutched tightly around the strap of her bag.
Her gray blazer was too formal for the weather and she looked like she already had enough of the day _and it had barely started
something about her expression_ quite, composed, but straining at the edges made me brake
Hey pretty you mind if I give you a ride I asked
She replied "yes please" desperately which made me giggle
