Chapter 2 - Outside

"Seriously, this seems straight out a fantasy novel."

Art sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

It wasn't everyday you suddenly woke up and found out you had transmigrated into the game you played so much it was one of the reasons you were soaring to popularity.

This was very hard to believe!

And as if that wasn't enough, he had the prince's memories, which in turn was like living a second life.

If reincarnation and transmigration wasn't a common trope in his past life, he would have already gone to assume that he was going mad....

"But still, what are the odds that this isn't just a hallucination! Maybe the truck never killed me! Maybe this is a fever dream!"

His memories of this life, and that of his former life were still there.

It was safe to say that he was denying his own existence. Denying one was as good as denying the other.

However, that wasn't as simple as he made it out to be, the emotions; everything from the joy he felt when he blew up to the despair he felt when he laid in a pool of blood, waiting for death to take him felt real.

'I can't stay in denial.'

He shook his head.

'My name is Arthur Kaiser Vael, disowned heir of the Central Monarchy, for a crime I didn't commit too. I am 15, average talent, and awakened the memories of my past life, in which I died foolish deaths in almost all the routes.'

He nodded his head.

'That's about right.'

He turned his attention back to the card, staring at it for a moment.

"I better hold on to this tight."

When he was disowned, they took everything from him.

His Acquire Skills.

Everything.

Everything except this card, a treasure that it's only use was to monitor his progress. Before he didn't have much use for it, considering that he spent most of his time sulking about his situation.

The card was actually worth more than all the skills he had on him, yet his family had practically forced him to keep the card.

Art put the card in his pocket and got off the bed.

He went towards the window and slid a glass panel open. The cold air stung his skin as he took the view in.

Towering skyscrapers pierced the heavens. It was impossible to see their peaks from down below.

Even from such a distance he was able to spot them.

'How nice.'

Just four centuries after World War III, the planet had developed drastically.

The explosion of one of China's nuclear weapons opened a rift in space.

The fighting stopped.

And humans, being the ever curious race they were, went into the rift.

On the other side, humans found rare and new minerals, but none came close to Void Crystals.

Void Crystals were indestructible gems that technology couldn't detect.

However, with the relentless research of top scientists, they discovered something about the crystals.

They couldn't emit, absorb, or reflect light, but possessed a large amount of energy.

Just one of them had enough energy to power a small town for a few days.

This thrilling discovery sent the world into a frenzy.

Unfortunately, the supply of Void Crystals on the other side of the rift was not unlimited.

And thus the war continued.

During the fighting, another rift opened. But this one, however, housed monsters.

Beasts that were couldn't be hurt by mere guns.

It took nukes.

A lot of nukes.

Yet, the monsters surged through the rift like an unending wave.

Finally, as humanity was pushed to the edge—something that would have happened with or without the presence of the rifts, though fortunately it was from the rift—the Void Crystals began seeping into the Earth itself.

Not the atmosphere.

But rather, the very source of resources required for survival.

No one noticed this.

Everything was put into the weapons, even as they lost.

Then, it happened.

Humans began awakening supernatural powers; they could harness essence and use it however they willed, they could survive explosions with little to no damage—they were practically gods in human skins.

With the powerup, humanity was finally able to combat the monsters.

After their win they ventured into the rifts with newfound confidence.

Technology advanced.

There was no unity, the world was split into five and governed by the Monarchs.

Arthur was the heir to the central monarchy, or at least he was. He was currently the disowned prince to the central monarchy.
