Chapter 11 - Chapter Seventeen: Sky Sports – Spurs vs United

Live from North London – White Hart Lane

🎥 [Wide shot of the stadium, drenched in early evening light. Fans are flooding in, flags waving, camera cranes panning across the crowd. The Premier League anthem faintly echoes over the murmur of anticipation.]

🎙️ David Jones (host):

"A huge night in North London. Tottenham vs Manchester United. Two teams with fresh ambitions, different styles, and—perhaps—similar expectations. And tonight, we see if Mason Grant's new era can handle a true away-day test."

🎥 [Cuts to the studio setup just above pitch-side.]

Gary Neville:

"White Hart Lane isn't a place you ease into. Spurs press you from minute one, especially under AVB. Quick, vertical football. It's intense."

Jamie Redknapp:

"And United—well, they're hard to define right now. Grant's set them up with discipline, sure, but the attack... it's not quite flowing yet. Still figuring each other out."

🎙️ Jones:

"Let's talk shape. Last week, a 4-2-3-1. But we've seen Grant test a 3-4-2-1 in preseason. Will we see it today?"

Neville:

"Wouldn't surprise me. Especially if he's worried about Son and Nani tracking back against Spurs' wide threats. He's got Cancelo and Grimaldo now—those two can shift systems mid-match."

🎙️ Redknapp:

"And let's not ignore the midfield. Casemiro's still learning English, let alone the tempo of the Prem. Carrick's mentoring him, but against Dembele and Eriksen? That's a different test altogether."

🎥 [Cut to clips of Carrick quietly marshalling players, Casemiro in tight duels, Rooney spraying passes, and Van Dijk calmly clearing danger.]

🎙️ Jones:

"Let's not forget—Tottenham were one of the sharpest attacking units last year. But now they face a rebuilt spine: Van Dijk, Kroos, Casemiro, Rooney deeper... this isn't Ferguson's United."

🎙️ Neville:

"No. It's... quieter. But deliberate. Grant's a planner. He's building a team that suffocates opponents through structure—not just vibes and comebacks."

🎙️ Redknapp (grinning):

"But White Hart Lane isn't a chessboard. It's a furnace. Let's see how this new manager handles the heat."

🎥 [Camera pans to the tunnel: Spurs and United players lining up, focused, bouncing on their toes. Mason Grant stands at the back, arms folded, watching.]

🎙️ David Jones:

"Kickoff is moments away. Spurs vs United. The fire begins now."

🎵 [Cut to commercial break as the crowd roars inside White Hart Lane.]

White Hart Lane – 30 minutes to kickoff

Outside the Ground – Fan Anticipation

The streets around White Hart Lane buzzed like a hive.

Vendors shouted for programs, pints were clutched in plastic cups, and phones were out everywhere—snapping photos of the new-look United team arriving earlier under heavy security.

Two Spurs fans in navy blue scarves, huddled near a food stand, shared a laugh.

"They've brought Kroos and Van Dijk, mate, but they still won't know what hit 'em when we press 'em early."

"Tell you what, Eriksen's gonna run rings 'round Carrick's knees. Old boy won't know which way's up."

Further down the line, a pair of young United fans waved handmade banners. One read:"GRANT THE FUTURE"The other: "#ROONEYCAM"

They spoke fast, nervously excited.

"I'm still not over that Rooney pass last week, man. If we get Kroos and Carrick clicking, I'm telling you—we cook."

"If Van Dijk pockets Kane, I'll buy his shirt full price, no bootleg."

The away section, already full, sang early and loud:

🎶 "20 times, 20 times Man United…Playing football the Grant way!"

Inside the Home Dressing Room – Spurs Camp

The air inside Tottenham's room was taut, electric.Clean lines. White kits. Focused faces.

André Villas-Boas paced with precision, his notebook closed, voice crisp.

"They've changed shape, yes. But that doesn't make them invincible."

He pointed to a whiteboard showing United's assumed 4-3-3 with notes in red:

"Carrick deep — not fast, pressure early."

"Rooney — don't follow him wide, pass him on."

"Cancelo over-commits. Exploit behind."

He turned to Mousa Dembélé and Christian Eriksen, sitting side by side.

"You two press on the second ball. Casemiro is still hesitating — punish his pauses."

"Vertonghen, Lloris — play out if you can. Otherwise, we go long. Target the space behind Grimaldo. He's flashy. Not yet settled."

Harry Kane leaned forward, lacing his boots tight.

"Let's put their 'system' to the test early. First ten minutes — all in."

Aaron Lennon cracked his knuckles. Kyle Walker bounced in place, grinning. They were hungry.

AVB's last words, just before they stood:

"Let the crowd do the talking. You do the running. Tonight, they remember Tottenham first—not Manchester United."

Hands came together in a tight circle. The shout echoed:

"COME ON, YOU SPURS!"
