Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Death and Reincarnation

Death.

This is the first time I'm fully experiencing it.

When I died by accident on Earth because of the kitchen gas fire, I was suddenly conscious in the MHA universe.

There was no real explanation, before recovering memories during my reflection.

At the time, I had the impression of closing and opening my eyes with a strong feeling of disorientation and unease.

It was as if something wasn't in its place.

This time, I feel like I'm floating in water at the perfect temperature.

For nothing in the world would I want to open my eyes again and leave this gentle embrace.

At least... that's what I thought.

"Rin-san? Can you hear me?" A gentle voice, incomparable to any I've ever heard, resonated in my ears.

Even though my current experience was pleasant, a distressed image of this voice pushed me to open my eyes.

I didn't want to feel grief in this voice.

Is this manipulation? Maybe, but I still wanted to avoid experiencing grief in this voice.

So my eyes opened.

"D... darkness? W... who are you?"

I found myself sitting, facing an empty throne and a woman with white wings like the angels mentioned by my parents in my first life.

The woman sketched a tender smile as she observed me like an exotic animal for a brief moment.

"You are currently in Aqua-sama's domain," she said in a respectful tone, mentioning a certain Aqua.

Strangely, this unique name stuck in my head like an important element.

Finally, I remembered after racking my brain.

Aqua.

She's a goddess leading a cult full of fanatics who stop at nothing to convert people to their religion.

Apart from these minor details, she's a goddess supposed to take care of deceased Japanese people and a character from the light novel Konosuba.

"Aqua? Is she a divinity? And what about you?"

I feign ignorance, but I'm not going to lie either.

When you frequent the corrupt and illegal part of Japan in the MHA universe, it's natural to gain the ability to deceive without lying.

It's a necessary skill in a world with a population of power users.

Especially in politics.

"Indeed, but I'm not a goddess like her. You can see me as an angel or a divine entity."

I calmly nodded at her words to show that I could still follow this abnormal situation.

My gesture seemed to be an appreciated act, as she displayed a satisfied expression.

"You've probably noticed, but you died in your office at the hands of Enji Todoroki..."

An unpleasant but real statement.

If I get the chance to return to MHA, I definitely plan to kill Enji and steal his family before his eyes.

Apart from this pseudo hero, I also learned my interlocutor's name.

Secret.

The angel who replaces Aqua has a really particular name.

She began explaining my situation in detail after informing me again of things already known to me.

A professional and efficient attitude.

I really hope the next transmigrators will meet her, and not Aqua.

Apart from my personal opinion about her performance, she offered me a proposition similar to Kazuma Satou in Konosuba.

First option: I can go to paradise.

Yes, you heard correctly.

Although I was legally scum, I wasn't a "villain" similar to Tomura or Muscular.

My thing was corruption in politics and monetary gain through espionage.

These were my main crimes, but I also had to commit assassinations on scum through the dark net and bring illegal products into Japan.

You've probably understood, but I never killed innocents to my knowledge.

I had chosen a path similar to Red Hood in DC.

Unfortunately, the government judged me too dangerous because of my ability.

I literally didn't need accomplices, except in case of association or obtaining contracts through an intermediary.

That's why I had enormous gains with little risk.

If a clone gets caught? He commits suicide and the problem is solved.

As for inability to suicide? I could filter the sensations and feelings felt by a clone, so torture or drugs were useless against them.

So my crimes aren't really sins in the literal sense of the term.

It's rare that I say this, but thanks to my parents for my education.

It's thanks to them that I have this opportunity in Aqua's domain.

As for the other option proposed by the angel Secret? A cliché isekai scenario.

The difference with Kazuma's case is that she didn't propose it to me with insistence like Aqua.

She just mentioned it vaguely.

As expected from an angel, she wants me in paradise.

"So Rin-san? Are you going to go rest eternally in paradise?"

I shook my head to show my refusal.

No, I can't accept eternal rest now.

Inko and Izuku are still there and my brother must currently be suffering without me.

He was already suffering from the trauma of having abused his power, but my disappearance surely created an enormous feeling of loneliness.

After all, I was the only one who could truly understand him because of our similar powers.

"I prefer reincarnation."

At my words, the woman sighed with fatigue.

She looked at me with eyes containing an unreadable emotion, but she handed me a notebook containing various names.

"You can choose the world in difficulty here and, at the end of your selection, please signal me to move to the next step."

I wasn't really interested in the rest of her words, since I was struck by a small detail.

"World in difficulty"

"W... wait a minute, Secret-san... All the proposed worlds are in danger?"

She looked toward me with satisfied eyes, before opening her full lips to answer me.

"Indeed, these worlds are all potentially destined to perish..."

Secret explained more things to me, unlike Aqua with Kazuma.

Normally, any good intelligent creature must go to paradise according to celestial laws.

However, some possess too many regrets or dissatisfactions in their heart.

These mortal attachments are undesirable in a place supposed to be perfect (paradise).

That's why the reincarnation option was introduced by the high-ranking gods.

They decided to send dissatisfied people to other worlds to purify them of their earthly desire.

However, noble ancient souls must ultimately go to paradise, right?

That's why they're sent to problematic worlds, which can easily make them gain the good karma necessary for their entry to paradise.

In case of failure?

The noble soul will undergo ordinary reincarnation, thus it will lose its own identity and truly start everything from zero.

Thus, the gods haven't broken any of their laws and the noble soul is solely responsible for its destiny.

Thanks to Secret's explanation, I now have a greater understanding of Kazuma Satou's situation.

The cheat power is just insurance for the survival of a "noble" individual and, if by chance, he succeeds in saving the world, then... it's a plus for the gods.

"Thank you for the explanation, I understand things better as a whole..."

After thanking Secret, I began browsing the universes available for reincarnation.

I perceived countless unknown worlds, but some could be recognized thanks to a vague description of the situation.

For example: the Konosuba universe is known as "parallel world" and is described as a world similar to a video game.

I understand better why Aqua recommended this world to Kazuma, but that bitch clearly didn't let him choose his destination.

It seems she wanted to intervene in Eris's world because of her believers posted there.

As for helping an inferior goddess? Aqua despises her too much for that to my knowledge.

"I'll go for this world, please."

Secret looked at the place indicated by my finger and nodded to show her understanding and approval.

The shinobi world.

The power level isn't too absurd in the Naruto era and my cloning ability will be effective in this universe.

Why do I mention my ability, when it's another life?

I definitely plan to bring it with me.

While I plan the direction to follow in the next universe, Secret manifested through a magic circle another notebook, which she passed to me.

"Powers?" I said, after glancing at the writings.

"Indeed, but you can also ask for a wish directly. However, I want to advise you to be extremely precise to avoid unforeseen situations."

Secret seems to have kept an indelible image of Aqua, who got dragged into the parallel world against her will.

Yet, I didn't underestimate or take her words lightly.

"Can I write on paper the things I wish to have after my reincarnation?"

"No, you can only formulate this wish, because it's based on external help to the procedure."

The answer was quick, but her words pushed me to use my plan B.

"I wish for the things and events that I intended to write on the paper refused by you."

Secret had her eyes wide after hearing my words, but so what?

I already knew that asking for paper could be rejected, because it remains a request and not a wish.

However, what happens if I visualize a list of events and objects while asking for this paper?

It becomes a potential future, doesn't it?

Now that she refused to grant this request, which could facilitate the formulation of my wish, I can just formulate the latter as: I want the things and events that I wanted to write on the paper.

I don't break the agreement and I get several abilities without tiring myself, that's my plan B.

"*sigh* I really hope you haven't wished for scandalous things," she said, as a magic circle formed under my feet.

"Oh... not much, but it's enough to wander around a bit everywhere in infinite realities."

My words shocked Secret again, but it was too late to prevent me from leaving or cancel my departure.

Even Aqua couldn't cancel Kazuma's wish or stop the magic circle of reincarnation.

In the end, I was engulfed in a soft and pleasant light.
