Inside an apartment complex a door of an apartment on the top floor swung open.
And from it emerged a young man looking to be 20-21 years old, sharp black eyes looking around, his bangs parting to the side of his face, clean features that made him stand in contrast with the messed bloodied surroundings.
Posture ready yet calm studying the place while holding a Kunai in his left hand and a 90 cm unsheathed shimmering blade in the other.
The rotten scent assaulted his senses right off due to the bundle of corpses and decaying blood laying on the stairs leading up to the roof.
With a flick of his hand, Sasuke used the storage seal, retrieving a cloth before tying it around his lower half of the face.
Closing the door, Sasuke glanced around, 3 other apartments were on this floor, 2 on each side of the hall.
Sounds of growls echoed from the stairs leading to the lower floor, its source clearly was a zombie.
After thinking for a moment, he decided to make sure no zombie climbed to the floor, finishing with that Sasuke walked to the stairs leading to lower floors.
There few stairs down, with its back toward him stood a man with shredded and dirty clothes, its skin visibly retten, standing weirdly like a puppet, dry moans escaping its throat from time to time.
Sasuke moved without making a sound, his steps as silent as they can get.
An action that came naturally due to years of experience.
With only one stair between them, the zombie sniffed then turned its head as if sensing something.
'smell?'
And before it even reacted, the Kunai got buried on the side of its head and further into its brain with a wet squelch.
Sasuke retrieved it calmly, keeping his pace steady as the body dropped behind him with a thud alerting two others nearby.
A female and teenage zombies came staggering up the stairs just for two swooshes to sound before dropping dead, real dead as two Senbons tore through their eye sockets like bullets and into their brain effectively ending their activity.
'hmm, is it that their skull is too rotten or I just used more force?' He was kinda surprised with how easily his kunai pierced through the skull of the first one.
Now on the 4th floor he looked around finding one of the apartments with its door wide open.
5 walkers in the corridor turned to him the instant he showed up, shuffling toward him, their empty white eyes exuding only cold menace and hunger for fresh flesh.
Taking a step forward he front-kicked the first one on his torso sending him reeling into the one behind it with the sound of bones snapping.
Then he side-stepped the swing of the third beheading him in the same motion with his sword.
Another one launched itself at Sasuke in an attempt to bite his neck, which was met with a roundhouse kick crashing its head against the wall with a loud crack as the brain matter splattered out from its ear in a disgusting scene.
Lowering his leg back into basic stance, Sasuke reverse-gripped his kunai before throwing it at the farthest zombie who was crawling slowly due to its torn leg putting it down.
The first two who were kicked away regained their footing, ready to sprint at him just for their heads to separate at the same time from a slash by his sword.
It took but 15 seconds for the corridor to fall silent again as Sasuke confirmed his kills before stepping into the only open door on this floor.
There, lying on the ground was a dead zombie, its shoulder and head were layered with grim injuries.
' It was smashed by something heavy then pierced with a sharp end, seems like someone was fighting in this place'
Yet he found no other zombie or living person inside the apartment so he just closed it and proceeded to the remaining 2 floors down.

{First pov}
12, that was the number of wandering zombies i killed after leaving "my" apartment till this point, the front doors of the complex.
Locking the doors and making sure of the place I turned to the stairs intending to start cleaning the rooms from zombies starting from the first floor and upward.
The whole building reek of stench, decaying corpses tossed and blood smears all around.
It isn't a place suitable for long-term stay.
But I finally had something to cast a light on my situation.
Chakra, which refused to grow no matter how much I tried to refine it the usual way, showed a sign of growth.
Not much, merely another thread which made them two now. Still as useless as before.
But now I know the way to make progress on it, I'm 80% sure, killing.
I don't know if that works for zombies only, and I'm not keen on finding out about the other option unless necessary but still, that's progress.
As long as there's a way for it to grow I don't care about the method.
My current two threads won't do any change, it still is not enough to use a jutsu, but 30-50? If my calculation is right then that should be enough for the basics.
Chakra control.
Since killing is the way, then killing I will, thankfully I am not influenced too much by Sasuke's memories, it was a weird mix honestly.
From what I felt, I can speculate that every thread takes around 10 zombies to form.
The good news is that I don't have to kill 10 every time I need a thread, it recovered simply like the way back in the shinobi world, though still caped at 2 pitiful threads.
They vanished in a short breath and took 5 seconds to fill up back without meditating.
Zombies aren't even as dangerous as a standard Genin, merely wild instincts of rushing, tearing and biting.
But with just the barest minimum of chakra, their large numbers and dangerous infection. I didn't let my guard down for a moment since I'd arrived in this world.
It wasn't taxing, just a routine by now. Rest but never totally relax.
Reaching the first apartment, I stood quietly hearing whatever noise may be inside...none. I tapped lightly on the door keeping to the wall and still, nothing.
Unlocking such a door would've been easy with chakra manipulating a steel wire, but that's not available which had me wasting a whole minute on the boring way to unlock it.
The inside was surprisingly clean, not dust-wise.
But at least there was no blood, overwhelming stench, corpse or whatsoever.
I walked the corridor, the kitchen, shower and one bedroom all had their doors open with no one inside, while the last room was locked.
Still holding my sword, I tapped, nothing, so I twisted the knob unlocking it.
A bedroom, a gown, and some couple of female underwear were tossed around the bed, yet, no sign of human activity for some time.
With the house confirmed safe, I walked back to the main door, locked it and started searching around and looting whatever was usable.
And unlike the one I woke up in, this apartment was much more useful, whoever lived here was clearly not struggling financially.
In 15 minutes of high speed ravage, I piled a meter high amount of items.
A microwave, even with electricity out I still choose it.
Cleaning bottles, soap, clean towels and utensils, three bags of rice, one of wheat, sugar and salt, two boxes of coffee, 3 of different spices, and sadly I had to abandon the expired milk, eggs, meat and vegetables that were already spoiled in the fridge.
Still enough for a simple meal.
From the second room I took the whole bed, mattress, covers and all, with the addition of other sets of covers and pillows.
My storage still has enough room for many things, especially since it work like my chakra...
That thing grows to double its previous space due to the addition of the chakra thread. Another win for me.
The woman who lived here took good care of the home, keeping many things clean that I found no trouble in making mine.
' Well, I hope she is fine if she's out there '.
I didn't touch anything personal and even kept half of the food. Part because I thought about the possibility of the owner ever coming back just to face the hopelessness of her house broke into and stripped bare, and part because I still have another 11 apartments to loot.
I don't really know how much time has passed since the outbreak, if it was days then there's a high chance of a survivor returning to his own house.
And truthfully, I don't want to be the cause of another person's misery.
Thus, one act such as this won't affect my situation negatively anyway.
What I appreciated even more are the books, she got a decent shelf filled half in comics and novels and the other half in some useful books about some electronics.
I also found a pill box for fever, headache and stomachache which imI looted.
As for women's appliances such as pads and wears, I decided to keep half of it in place, it's not like I would need them and I have alternatives for possible future trades.
Just one apartment and many things on my list were covered.
