~Annalyn POV~
When I reached the house my fingers were sticky, warm, clutching the heart of the girl who dared to mock me. It beat faintly still, as though unwilling to accept its end I held it against my chest, amused by its faint trembling, as if it wanted to replace my own.
The house loomed dark, its windows lit by the faint glow of lamps I stepped forward quietly, but as fate always delights in cruel timing, the door swung open before I touched it. Matteo, Lucas, Celix, and Kate were there, stepping out as if the night itself had summoned them. Their voices caught in their throats the moment their eyes fell on me.
Matteo's expression hardened, his jaw clenching. "What the hell is that?" he asked, pointing at the bloodied thing in my hand.
I smirked, tilting my head. "Seriously? You should be used to this by now even inside the darkness, can't you recognize what you love to do the most?"
