Chapter 9 - half a cane

"So bright!""What is that?!""Has somewhere caught fire?""Impossible! A fire wouldn't be this bright! Besides, Cangnan City doesn't even have buildings that tall!""Quick, quick—film it! Post it to WeChat Moments!""…"

The beam of light shooting into the sky was blinding—so much so that half the city of Cangnan had taken notice. Pedestrians stopped in their tracks, excitedly speculating its origin. Some said it was an explosion, others guessed an optics experiment, still others whispered of a divine miracle. Only a few knew what it truly meant.

Two minutes earlier, on the edge of the Old City…On an empty street, ripples in space began to form, like someone lifting back a corner of the canvas veiling the Old City. Five figures in black‑red cloaks emerged. One of them glanced around, stepped forward, and picked up the "No Entry Ahead" sign, folding it closed. As soon as the notice board was stowed away, the silent old city shattered like a bubble—revealing its true interior.

Drenched in blood, the streets were stained red. Broken, monstrous limbs were scattered everywhere—Lin Qiye, if he could see, would have recognized them. They were the remnants of the faceless monsters he'd faced—at least thirty‑four of them strewn across the ground.

"[Wu Jie Forbidden Zone] Cleanup complete," the man holding the sign said calmly."We can call the logistics team to clear the battlefield.""Where's Lao Zhao?""He went after the two Faceless Ones that escaped.""…It was our oversight," the injured woman murmured, clutching her right shoulder, her spirits low."Don't say that. Hong Ying—no one could have predicted that among these Faceless Ones there'd be a Faceless King." The man beside her offered comfort."The captain facing a Faceless King alone… he should be fine, right?""Of course. Don't forget—our captain is a 3rd‑Tier 'Chuan' Realm warrior. Nothing will happen to him." He paused. "I just hope those two runaway Faceless Ones don't hurt any civilians…"

Just as he spoke, a blazing beam of divine light shot upward from another direction—illuminating half the sky! The five turned their heads simultaneously, shock written in their eyes.

"That is...""A Forbidden Ruins has appeared!""The energy fluctuations… absurdly strong!""This… this must be at least a 5th‑Tier 'Wu Liang' Realm warrior, or maybe even a 6th‑Tier 'Klein'... How could such a strong figure be drawn to tiny Cangnan City?""No… this doesn't feel like a human's Ruins," the man frowned.Hong Ying froze for a moment, then seemed to realize something: "You mean…""It looks like a divine Forbidden Ruins—i.e., a God Ruins."When the word "god" was spoken, everyone's gaze locked.

"Which deity?""Intense. Holy. Powerful. And this aura of creation… if I'm not mistaken…" The man stared intently at the fading light beam. He spoke slowly: "God code 003 — the King of Angels, Michael."

Lin Qiye felt awful. At the center of that golden pillar of light, his body floated in mid‑air, completely out of control. Endless divine energy poured from his eyes.

In that moment, he felt as though he had returned ten years ago—across the infinite cosmos—once more seeing those eyes. The supreme, sacred aura was still vivid in his memory. The difference now was that ten years ago, the energy came from the moon. Now, it came from... his own eyes.

The seraphic power and divine authority surged crazily from his gaze—his eyes were like two burning suns, ready to dissolve everything into nothingness.

Ten years ago, the Seraph Michael met his gaze across the moon.Ten years later, Lin Qiye opened his eyes—and the residual power of that seraph within exploded forth!

Fortunately, the divine energy left in Lin Qiye's eyes wasn't vast. The light beam lasted only seven or eight seconds, eventually fading away. Lin Qiye's body descended from mid‑air and stumbled before regaining balance.

Golden light dimmed in his eyes, leaving only a faint halo.If earlier the brightness was like the sun, now it was more like a single candle. That magnificent divine glow had been external—now what remained in his eyes was true, his, handwritten power.A faint trace of seraphic energy.

Lin Qiye inhaled deeply and lifted his head.

Under the dark sky—amid scorched streets, monstrous creatures, blood‑soaked ground—he saw it all with his own eyes. And he smiled.

A broad, heartfelt smile. After ten years, he was finally seeing the world again with his own sight.

At this moment, even the blood‑splattered monsters before him seemed strangely endearing.

When Lin Qiye had first unleashed the divine glow, those two monsters had been pinned to the ground, nearly flattened.Only after the golden beam disappeared did they stir, glancing around in confusion before locking onto Lin Qiye.

Their eyes once more filled with a murderous hunger.

"Shieeek—!" one monster screeched and lunged toward Lin Qiye!

This time, he was far calmer. The moment the creature moved, he calculated its trajectory in his mind and rolled aside—and then reached down to grab the broken half of his cane.

Lin Qiye sprang up, squatted low, eyes locked onto the monster as it approached at top speed. Both hands gripped the broken cane.

The monster blurred into afterimages, whipping up wind that swirled Lin Qiye's hair. It explodes upward from the rubble with back legs driving off the broken wall, lunging directly at him!

But Lin Qiye did not dodge. He gripped the half‑cane firmly and locked eyes with the monster.

"Shieeek—!"The beast's claws snapped out—aiming for Lin Qiye's neck.Just as they were about to strike, his eyes abruptly constricted. The faint golden halo flared like fuel thrown into flame—like twin blazing furnaces!

Divine authority surged from his eyes and blasted into the creature's body.

The monster's gaze at Lin Qiye changed—it saw not a boy, but a supreme deity with six wings, radiating cosmic pressure.

In that divine presence, the creature froze—momentarily paralyzed.

During that instant, Lin Qiye raised the broken cane high and precisely plunged it into the monster's right eye!
