We left the feline kingdom behind, the morning sun shining over the road ahead. The breeze felt fresh, and the distant hills seemed to invite us forward.
Noko walked at my side, humming cheerfully, her ears twitching with every sound in the fields. Her excitement was contagious, and even Maya—though she tried to look serious—couldn't hide the faint smile tugging at her lips. Zara, as always, kept a calm expression, though I noticed her red eyes lingering on the scenery with quiet appreciation.
—"So… where are we heading now?" Maya asked, resting her hand on her sword.
—"Good question," I admitted. "We don't exactly have a set destination."
Noko raised her hand enthusiastically.
—"I heard from the merchants that there's a great human city not too far from here-nya! They said it has a giant library, markets, and even an arena."
—"An arena?" Maya perked up instantly. "Now that sounds promising."
—"Markets, libraries, sweets… sounds perfect," Zara added with a small smile.
—"Alright," I nodded. "Then let's head there. No harm in exploring."
The path was long, but our spirits were high. From time to time, travelers passed by, giving us curious glances—after all, a party with three S-Rank adventurers and a feline demi-human wasn't exactly common.
At midday, we stopped under a large tree to rest. Noko shared some dried fruit she had packed, while Zara prepared tea with surprising skill. Maya, impatient as ever, swung her sword a few times to "keep her body warm."
—"You never stop training, do you?" I sighed.
—"Of course not," she replied proudly. "Strength fades if you let your guard down."
Noko giggled.
—"You two argue like siblings-nya."
Zara sipped her tea quietly, but her lips curved in amusement.
After our break, we continued until the horizon revealed rooftops rising above the fields. Stone walls surrounded the city, with banners fluttering in the wind. From a distance, it looked lively, filled with color and energy.
—"There it is," Zara murmured.
—"Finally!" Maya grinned, already eager.
As we approached the gates, I couldn't help but feel anticipation. We had just left behind a kingdom full of traditions, trials, and family bonds. Now, a new city awaited us—one that might hold answers, dangers, or maybe just the peaceful life I kept hoping for.
But with Purin, Maya, Zara, and Noko around… peaceful might be too much to ask.
