MHGA Chapter 187: Hot Milk with Red Dates, Honey, and Ginger—Boiled, Large Cup

On the streets of Night City, a scene unfolded that was strange—but not too strange.

A man, covered in blood, was walking while carrying two large sacks slung over his shoulders, with a blue-haired young man sporting a teardrop mole trailing behind him.

No one could scan any data from either of them.

Usually, that could only mean one of two things: either they didn't have any cyberware installed at all, or one of them was a hacker capable of scrambling scanners.

But come on—who in Night City didn't have cyberware?

And to top it off, both of them had massive, intimidating shields and one-handed swords strapped to their waists. What if they were Cyberpsychos or something?!

With that fear in mind, people on the street scattered like they'd just seen a pair of monsters, giving Kairo Retsu and Himmel a wide berth.

"This is a first for me…" Himmel muttered as he watched the crowd flee from them like the plague. "First time people have avoided me like I'm some kind of beast."

"Less trouble that way. Not a bad thing," Kairo replied. "Next stop is this city's most unique bar—mostly mercs hang out there…"

"Afterlife."

Kairo spoke with certainty: "On their drink menu, they write down the names of this city's legends—dead legends."

"So what are we going there for?" Himmel asked, eyeing the two people Kairo had rescued from the Scavs. "You seem to know this city quite well."

"I know it a little too well, but I cheated," Kairo said, sniffing. "It's kinda like how I know you. Make sense?"

"Makes sense," Himmel nodded. "So what are you planning?"

"Leave our mark—and meet Night City's most badass fixer!" Kairo declared. "We still have an exploration mission to do… and now that we're here, we're gonna plant a flag!"

With that, Kairo carried the two rescuees, and together with Himmel, used his blurry game memories to locate the Afterlife in Night City.

When they reached the entrance, the bouncer spotted Kairo approaching with two suspicious-looking sacks. He instinctively moved to block them—but the moment he saw the bloodstains and the huge sword at Kairo's side, he hesitated.

"Take me to Rogue," Kairo said flatly. "Only Rogue."

"You here to cause trouble?" the bouncer asked warily, looking ready to draw his gun. "Who sent you?"

His cybernetic eyes lit up, clearly preparing to scan Kairo's data.

Kairo frowned.

He was all flesh and bone—if this guy managed to scan anything, he deserved a medal.

Stepping forward, Kairo shoved his face in close. "Take me to Rogue. I've got business with her."

"Back off!" the bouncer snapped, trying to push Kairo away—but Kairo didn't budge an inch. Instead, the force of his shove rebounded, sending the bouncer stumbling back into the Afterlife's door.

"If you can't stop me, don't bother trying," Kairo said, lowering the sacks and grabbing the bouncer's wrists, pulling them wide apart. "We're seeing Rogue today, no matter what…"

"Rogue! Someone here to see you!" The bouncer's wrists twisted painfully in Kairo's grip until, unable to take it anymore, he finally sent Rogue a message.

As the glow in his cybernetic eyes faded, he exhaled in relief. "She said okay! Let go!"

"Now we're talking." Kairo released him.

Himmel made no comment. After all, this wasn't his world. He understood the environment was different from his own, so he simply followed Kairo in silence.

Inside the Afterlife, Kairo immediately recognized the layout—it looked exactly like the bar from the Cyberpunk game and the Edgerunners anime. Even the bartender, Claire, was exactly as he remembered.

At the bar counter sat Rogue herself, leaning against it and watching as Kairo and Himmel walked in.

The moment they stepped inside, Rogue's eyes lit up with scanning beams—but they quickly vanished.

"Hell! Two punks without a shred of chrome walk in here asking to see me?" Rogue barked. "If you wanna die so badly, just pick some gangbanger off the street! Don't waste my time!"

"How do you know we don't have chrome? Maybe you just failed to scan us," Kairo said casually, dropping the sacks onto the floor and crossing his arms.

"Kid, in Night City, if I can't scan someone—it's because they're the kind who wouldn't waltz in here like it's nothing," Rogue sneered. Around them, several patrons had already begun aiming their guns at Kairo.

"Then I guess you're seeing something new today," Kairo said cheerfully, taking a seat at the bar like he owned the place. He waved to Claire. "A drink, please. I've got business to discuss."

Claire, unfazed, came over. "What'll it be?"

"Hot milk. Half a red date, a spoon of honey, two slices of ginger—boiled together… serve it in a big cup, thanks." Kairo flashed a brilliant smile.

"Pffft…" Someone nearby burst out laughing at his order. "Look at this guy—still drinking baby formula!"

"I'll have the same, thanks," Himmel said casually, sitting next to Kairo.

This bar might be different from the ones Himmel knew, but it served the same purpose—so he went along with it.

But he had heard that guy's mocking remark.

So before sitting down, Himmel reached out and snatched the gun from the man's hands—then took his seat beside Kairo.

Seeing Himmel now holding a gun out of nowhere, Rogue's expression finally changed.

She hadn't picked up any chrome from these two…

"Claire. That recipe—remember it."

Kairo beamed. "It's from Granny Felyne. A Hunter's signature comfort drink."

"Won't be long before everyone starts ordering it out in the open," he added. "After all, all of us Hunters love drinking it."
