Chapter 114 - Midterm Exams

"Dumbledore, do you think it makes a difference to me whether I have a wand or not if I want to do something?" Grindelwald flashed his mocking smile again. "While Sybill Trelawney didn't fully inherit her great-grandmother's abilities, her talent is very real. Without the help of the Elder Wand, my prophecy wouldn't be much clearer than hers."

Hearing this, Dumbledore pondered for a moment before finally saying, "Gellert, don't do anything foolish!"

He then handed the Elder Wand over. Grindelwald then effortlessly used a non-verbal spell to knock the Elder Wand out of Dumbledore's hand. He elegantly flicked his fingers, and the Elder Wand floated from the ground into his hand.

"It's been a while since I've felt this!" Grindelwald said, gently stroking the Elder Wand with a wicked smile.

"Don't waste time, begin!" Dumbledore urged, handing him a strand of hair. He was secretly on guard against his old friend, and even though he had lost the Elder Wand, he would not hesitate to act if Grindelwald made any other ill-intentioned moves.

"Hmph!" Grindelwald sneered, then gently turned his wrist. The Elder Wand passed over Victor's hair, which then turned into a wisp of smoke that slowly rose. The images of the future were presented to them.

The images were very short and blurry, lasting less than five seconds, but the two of them were still able to glean a lot of information from them. The prison was immediately plunged into a heavy silence.

"Do you think it will have something to do with him?" Grindelwald's face showed a rare seriousness. The images in the smoke had completely exceeded their understanding.

"The Victor Dreyar I know would not…" Dumbledore replied, then he inconspicuously knocked the Elder Wand out of Grindelwald's hand and turned to leave. "Thank you, Gellert. I need to get back."

"What do you intend to do?"

"Someone once told me that one should not let their fate be dictated by a so-called prophecy, and I think I should try that." Dumbledore replied softly, then disappeared into the darkness of the cell.

Grindelwald looked at the darkness in front of him, turned his head to the single narrow window slit, and muttered, "Albus, no one has ever been able to change a predetermined history, even if it is in the future..."

.....

Hogwarts.

The day after Dumbledore and Grindelwald saw and worried about the future, a Saturday, the Ravenclaws were undergoing inhumane tests deep in the Forbidden Forest.

With November already here, there were less than two months until Christmas. This meant that the first semester of the 1992 Hogwarts school year was about to end. So, according to the plan that had been set at the beginning of the school year, Victor began to prepare the midterm exams for the Ravenclaws.

He had specifically marked out a large area deep in the Forbidden Forest and enchanted it to be the location for this midterm exam.

That's right, the Ravenclaws' Defense Against the Dark Arts midterm exam was not in an illusion; this time they would be facing real combat.

The rules of the exam were that the students from each year would form their own teams of six. Two teams would take the exam at a time, with a time limit of thirty minutes. They would be graded on a combination of individual and team performance. If a team had more or fewer members, the difficulty of the exam would be adjusted accordingly.

The first-year Ravenclaws had a relatively simple exam. Since they had only been studying Defense Against the Dark Arts for a short time, they were facing stationary targets. As long as they cast a spell on the ten targets representing different dark magical creatures, such as werewolves, vampires, and goblins, Victor would grade them based on the spell they chose and the extent of the damage to the target.

It should be noted that each target corresponded to the physical strength of a different type of dark magical creature, which meant that other than being inanimate and immobile, they were no different from real dark magical creatures.

After more than twenty minutes, the first-year Ravenclaws' exam was over. For their scores, all the Ravenclaws except for Luna and three others got an 'E' (Exceeds Expectations), while the other four received an 'O' (Outstanding).

Unlike the first-year Ravenclaws, starting from the second year, all the Ravenclaws had to face a practical exam.

The second-year Ravenclaws' practical opponents were Mountain Trolls, which Victor had specifically gone to Scandinavia to capture. This 4X-rated magical creature had strong limbs and simple minds. They were not very fast, and their only redeeming qualities were their foul stench and their strong, magic-resistant skin. Therefore, the Mountain Troll was a perfect opponent for the second-year Ravenclaws who had only been studying Defense Against the Dark Arts for a little over a year.

However, even though they had reviewed and gone over the possible questions beforehand, the second-year Ravenclaws couldn't help but feel a little nervous when faced with the Mountain Troll's massive body and powerful footsteps.

So, at the beginning of the exam, they all just focused on creating distance, which caused them to fight individually. But thankfully, they eventually pulled it together, and all five teams defeated the Trolls within the time limit by working together. Most of them received an 'E' (Exceeds Expectations), but a few only got an 'A' (Acceptable).

Victor had originally planned to give everyone an 'A' (Acceptable), but he decided to give them a fairer grade since the second-year Ravenclaws had been taught Defense Against the Dark Arts by Quirrell, the fake stutterer.

When it was the third-year Ravenclaws' turn, their opponents were twenty Erklings.

An Erkling is a creature similar to an elf, but larger than a gnome. They are about one meter tall on average, have long, pointed faces, and especially love the taste of human children. This 4X-rated magical creature lives in Germany's Black Forest. They like to make a confusing cackling sound to lure human children over to eat them.

The third-year Ravenclaws' skills were slightly stronger than the second-year Ravenclaws', but when faced with the numerical and aerial agility advantage of the Erklings, many of the third-year Ravenclaws found themselves in a very difficult situation.
