Chapter 76 - Of Serpents and...Fangs

Audrey's chest clenched as the serpent loomed above her. All massive monstrousity of it.

Its shadow blotted out the shimmering blues and pinks of the crystal cave. Drool slick and greenish dripped from its maw, sizzling against the floor with a hiss that smelled like burning rubber. Poison.

Heavens! How was she supposed to do battle with something…something so huge?

She forced her legs to backpedal, slow and stiff, though every instinct screamed at her to bolt. The serpent tracked her with terrifying patience, its slit-pupiled gaze glowing like embers in the dark.

The dagger in her hand felt pitiful, just a splinter of steel against a monster whose head alone dwarfed her entire body. She clenched harder, hand trembling despite herself.

This wouldn't work. She was going to die with a butter knife in my hand.
