Chapter 11: Canaan Academy Enrollment
. A month flew by in the blink of an eye.
Besides practicing, Xiao Ling spent his days shopping with Xiao Xun'er.
At dawn, Xiao Ling opened his eyes, got up, dressed, and left the courtyard.
He had deliberately risen early, fearing the long queues and the long lines.
Leaving the Xiao residence and arriving at the selection site, he found the crowds to be minimal. With a sigh of relief, Xiao Ling headed towards the tents in the square.
The crowds were small, so Xiao Ling didn't enter the human wall of soldiers as in the original novel. Instead, he took his turn at the registration area in the center of the square.
In front of him stood a large tent. Several young men were testing the cultivation of applicants. The requirement was eighteen years old and at the eighth level of Dou Qi, a simple task for Xiao Ling.
Despite the large crowd outside, this wasn't Canaan Academy's first enrollment, and the requirements had already been publicized, few were confident they'd be selected. Most were simply there to watch the excitement.
"You're too old, next."
Before long, Xiao Ling also reached the crystal ball for testing.
The test was being conducted by a female student. She watched a handsome young man, estimated to be no more than ten years old, walk in. Because of her good first impression, she didn't look down on him. Instead, she gave him a bright smile and handed over the test crystal ball.
"Little brother, this test crystal is very simple. Infuse it with Dou Qi. Once your strength reaches the eighth level of Dou Qi, it will glow, and you'll pass."
Without hesitation, Xiao Ling grabbed the crystal ball and injected Dou Qi into it. When it glowed brilliantly, he returned it to the female student.
The female student was a little surprised that it actually lit up. After all, Xiao Ling was so young.
"I passed, didn't I, sister?"
Xiao Ling's voice brought her out of her trance.
"Oh, I did, but you're such a little genius!"
The female student pointed inside. "Just walk inside."
Nodding, Xiao Ling walked into the tent. There were only a few newcomers who had passed, not many people, and they weren't basking in the sun like in the original story. This made Xiao Ling feel relieved, but he didn't want to waste too much time on such things.
"Haha, little one's got quite a talent! Looks like I've found a gem today."
A sudden female voice caught Xiao Ling's attention, and he looked inside.
In the shadows of the tent, a woman in green stood smiling pretentiously. Her beautiful face was adorned with a gentle smile, and her eyes flickered, their gaze fixed on Xiao Ling intensely.
"This must be the instructor Ruolin from the original novel! What a beauty!" Xiao Ling couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
Xiao Ling stepped forward, bowed, and said, "Hello, instructor. I'm Xiao Ling."
Ruolin, without putting on any airs, said, "My name is Ruolin. Just call me Instructor Ruolin. "Little brother, how old are you? I can't be more than ten. I've never seen someone so young pass the test."
"I'm eight years old, and a one-star fighter." As Xiao Ling spoke, the surrounding people chatting turned their gazes. There was surprise, envy, and jealousy.
When Ruolin heard this, she was ecstatic. The pen in her hand was clenched so tightly that it made a "creaking" sound. She stared at the child in front of her with shining eyes. She didn't expect that she had actually picked up a treasure.
After calming down, Ruolin smiled and said, "Although your strength hasn't reached S-rank yet, because you're still young, I'll give you S-level treatment. This is the highest I can offer you. Is that okay?"
Xiao Ling shook his head, having not expected such a good offer. "Thank you, Instructor Ruolin. I have no objection." "
Alright, then, we'll meet here in three days. Now you can go home and say goodbye to your family." With a wave of her hand, Ruolin turned and left. She had to report to the school's leadership. Such talent was rare even in the inner courtyard.
Seeing this, Xiao Ling didn't want to linger any longer. He turned and left the tent, heading towards the Xiao family.
The moon was bright in the sky, and the sky was filled with stars. In the back of
the Xiao family's mountain,
Xiao Xun'er and Xiao Ling sat on the hillside, gazing at the stars together.
They leaned against each other, their black hair mingling in the evening breeze, making them inseparable.
The young man tilted his head to look, and the moonlight cast a shadow on the girl's delicate profile, making her look like a moon elf, elegant and mysterious.
Looking up at the stars in the night sky, Xiao Ling felt a sense of profound tranquility.
"Brother Xiao Ling, I'll go to Canaan College to accompany you next year. What do you think?" Xiao Xun'er said softly.
"Okay, then we'll practice together, and then we'll enter the inner courtyard together." Taking Xun'er's hand, Xiao Ling said with a smile.
Nodding, Xiao Xun'er rested her head on Xiao Ling's shoulder, listening to the boy's gentle breathing, and before she knew it, she fell asleep.
Hiding in the shadows, Ling Ying couldn't help but shake his head, sighing inwardly, "It seems that young lady's heart has really been stolen by this boy." In fact, he had no ill will towards Xiao Ling, but simply felt that the huge gap in their status made it difficult for them to be together. "Well, let it be."
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
Last night, Canaan College announced its admissions rankings, which made Xiao Ling's reputation widely known. Many people marveled that such a talented person had emerged from the small Xiao family.
For three days, Xiao Ling did not practice, but spent every day accompanying Xiao Xun'er on tours, leaving their footprints in every corner of Wutan City.
Standing in front of Xiao Xun'er's courtyard, Xiao Ling looked at the person nestled in his arms and shook his head helplessly. "Xun'er, if you don't let me go, we'll be late."
She raised her head and rolled her eyes at Xiao Ling. She pulled a porcelain vase from her storage ring, holding a ball of crimson flame. She held it out to Xiao Ling, saying softly, "This is a beast fire from a sixth-rank Fiery Wolf. Didn't you say you wanted to become an alchemist? This is a gift for you." She pried Xiao Ling's hand open and placed the flame in her palm.
Xiao Ling was overjoyed at the beast fire in his hand. The Burning Technique was exactly at the stage it needed to evolve. The flame was ready. All he needed was the elixir to advance.
Putting the beast fire away, he patted Xiao Xun'er's head and said, "Xun'er, you truly are my lucky star."
"As long as you like it, it's nothing. Remember to think of me when you go to Canaan Academy." Seeing Xiao Ling's delight, Xiao Xun'er smiled as well.
"Of course, I think of Xun'er every day, very much." Xiao Ling gently stroked the girl's cheek, kissed her forehead, and then turned and left.
Facing the setting sun, the boy's figure became farther and farther away, until he disappeared from the girl's sight.
