Chapter 18 - Battling a powerful vengeful spirit hiding in disguise

The moment Liu Baba stabbed the silver needles into Zhang family's second brother, his convulsions stopped immediately. The nosebleeds and foaming at the mouth ceased, and his breathing gradually steadied.

Grandpa thought Liu Baba had successfully driven out the Yellow Skin spirit possessing Zhang's second brother. But Liu's expression remained serious. She suddenly placed her hand gently on his lower abdomen and pressed a few times.

To Grandpa's horror, a strange lump—about the size of a baby's fist—began to bulge and move under Zhang second brother's skin. It appeared alive, crawling around beneath the surface, now here, now there.

Holding a silver needle, Liu Baba's eyes locked onto the wandering lump, carefully tracking its movements. After several attempts, she still couldn't pierce it.

Curious, Grandpa asked, "Little sister, what on earth is that?"

"It's the violent resentment formed from the Yellow Skin's grudges. If we don't release this bitterness, Zhang second brother is doomed," Liu said, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.

After more tries and no success, Liu looked anxiously at Grandpa. "Brother Wu, hurry and fetch a bucket of well water. It has to be freshly drawn, cold water from the well."

Grandpa nodded and ran to the well, drawing a bucket of ice-cold underground water—so cold it was like ice, even in the hot summer.

Carrying the bucket back, he asked, "Little sister, what now?"

"Pour it all over him," Liu instructed.

Without hesitation, Grandpa drenched Zhang second brother with the freezing well water.

Normally, such cold water would make anyone jump up, but Zhang second brother only shivered slightly and then lay still.

The instant the cold water hit him, the moving lump paused briefly—just a blink of an eye—then Liu's hand moved like lightning, piercing the lump with the silver needle.

Her technique was precise. Once pierced, Liu sharply pulled the needle upward, causing the lump to rupture and spew a jet of black, foul-smelling liquid.

Grandpa was overwhelmed by the stench, staggering back while covering his nose.

The smell was like a rotten egg smashed on his face—unbearably putrid.

Yet Liu seemed unfazed, squatting quietly by Zhang second brother's side.

As the black liquid continued to seep out, the lump gradually shrank until it vanished completely.

At last, Zhang second brother's breathing returned, and his complexion began to normalize.

Liu let out a sigh of relief and sat down beside him.

Just as Liu was catching her breath, the situation turned even stranger.

Zhang second brother, who lay motionless, suddenly sat up stiffly from the ground.

His eyes rolled back wildly. Within moments, his eyes turned completely white, bloodshot like cataracts.

Seeing this, Liu panicked. Her gaze darted around, as if searching for something.

Then, the most bizarre thing happened: Zhang second brother started crawling on all fours, his back arched, his tongue extending unnaturally long, scuttling swiftly across the ground with unnerving skill.

He now looked like a giant humanoid weasel, letting out eerie shrieks, his face twisted into a grotesque snarl.

Startled, Grandpa hurried to a nearby spot and pulled his large machete from the ground.

"Little sister, what's wrong with second brother now?" Grandpa asked fearfully.

"There's not just one Yellow Skin spirit in this yard—there's another, stronger one. You need to find and kill that Yellow Skin quickly, or Zhang second brother won't survive," Liu said as she lit another pipe and inhaled deeply, the glowing embers burning bright.

Hearing this, Grandpa wandered the yard with his machete raised, searching desperately for the hidden Yellow Skin.

After circling twice, he found no sign of the spirit.

Meanwhile, the weasel-like Zhang second brother lunged at Liu, and they grappled fiercely.

Under the Yellow Skin's control, Zhang second brother had immense strength and seemed impervious to pain.

Liu struck repeatedly with her glowing pipe but he didn't dodge, relentlessly attacking.

Seeing this, Grandpa grew anxious. He still hadn't found the other Yellow Skin, and Liu couldn't hold on much longer.

Suddenly, Grandpa wondered if the Yellow Skin might be inside the house.

With that thought, he grabbed his machete and entered Zhang second brother's home.

The house had only three rooms. Grandpa checked each one thoroughly—even under the beds—but found nothing.

Sweat dripped down his forehead in frustration.

If this Yellow Skin had already harmed Zhang fifth brother, and now second brother, things were getting serious.

Grandpa returned to the main room and scanned the ceiling beams carefully.

His eyes caught an odd detail: a patch of white fur hanging strangely from the beam.

Looking closer, it resembled an animal's tail.

The more Grandpa stared, the more he suspected it was the Yellow Skin's tail—except it was white.

Puzzled, Grandpa grabbed a teacup from the table and hurled it at the white tail.

The cup struck true, and the tail twitched.

It was alive.

Now absolutely sure, Grandpa realized the creature on the beam was a weasel.

"Beast, how dare you harm people! Get lost!" Grandpa shouted, throwing several more teacups in its direction.

The weasel screeched loudly, revealing a sharp head and glaring viciously at Grandpa.

He clearly saw that the weasel's tail was entirely white.

Legend says the more white fur a weasel has, the higher its spiritual power.

This one's fully white tail meant it was a powerful Yellow Skin spirit indeed.
