Chapter 10 - Return to the Streets

Lucas knew better than to trust the polite chatter in the global chat.

Humans were far more dangerous than zombies.

After a simple meal of canned meat and water, he slept soundly, waking at dawn to find the streets quieter. The gun-toting zombie still lurked nearby—his primary target.

Three stragglers near Building 2 caught his attention. Easy prey.

He moved silently through the apartment complex, his movements precise. The zombies heard his footsteps from eight meters away—their enhanced hearing was problematic.

No matter.

A swift axe strike decapitated the first. His riot shield blocked the others' lunges before two more clean kills.

LOOT ALERT:

[Acquired: Energy Core x2][Acquired: Bio-Comp x9][Junk: Broken Keys x2] → Discarded

The real prize lay ahead—the revolver-wielding corpse.

[System Warning]:

"Zombie approaching corner. Stop now unless you want a face-to-face."

Lucas froze. Three seconds later, the creature rounded the bend—its skull split mid-growl by his axe.

Another Core. More compost. Useless bloody rags.

Ahead, the path forked: one led to an empty alley connecting to the main road, the other to a garden with two roamers.

No detours. Daylight was precious.

He slipped past the garden zombies, hugging walls and moving like a shadow until he reached the alley. Peering out, he assessed the revolver zombie's position.

A dozen stragglers nearby. Hundreds more in the distance.

This was the moment.

Lucas tapped his axe against the wall—ting—drawing two zombies toward the alley. Slow. Steady.

Their rotting faces turned. Their shuffling steps echoed.

Closer...

Closer...

Now.
