Chapter 1 - The new life

When Sumit opened his eyes, he found himself unable to walk and only able to see himself in an unfamiliar place. This place was surrounded by large trees and grass, and he was able to conclude that it was a forest. However, he was unable to understand how he got there. He started panicking due to this unknown place, but he was unable to get up. He was very confused, as he should have been in his army camp. He got even more freaked out as he thought he might be held hostage by the enemy.

Amidst all this confusion, he saw a young woman in her twenties approaching him. He tried to speak to her, but he was unable to utter a word. Then, the woman came near him and picked him up in her hand. He realized why the trees were looking so much larger than they normally did - it wasn't that the trees were much larger, but instead, he had gotten smaller. He was unable to comprehend what was happening. At first, he thought he was dreaming, but as the woman took him with her, he started to realize that it looked too real to be a dream.

It had been a month since he got here in this new body, but he was unable to uncover how he got here, why he got here, and what happened to his original body. There were a lot of questions on his mind, but there was no one to answer them. As time passed, he started to accept the reality of this new life. However, he didn't get to know more about the place where he was born due to his inability to move. He spent most of his time lying around and crying, as his baby body demanded.

As months passed since his arrival in this new place, he now learned to take baby steps and got to know that this place was nothing like his original world. The civilization was much less developed here. They were still in the phase where they lived in wooden houses, and the presence of cement and other industrial products was not visible. From this, he came to the conclusion that it was a medieval period, but he was unable to conclude at what era he was in. He also got to know that his parents were fishermen. They lived on the outskirts of a village near a river, which made it easy for them to catch fish. His mother did housework, and his father made a living by doing fishing.

As time went by, he was able to connect with them in this new life. He was able to enjoy the warmth of his parents in this new life because, in his last life, he was an orphan and had to fend for himself since childhood. But here, he got a chance to be loved by his parents. However, as he grew, he also started to see that this world was not as kind as it seemed. His parents were living on the outskirts because they were discriminated against due to being of a low caste. They were not able to live in the village with upper-caste people. Seeing this, he got angry and decided to change this system. In his heart, he decided to build a kingdom where his parents or people of any caste could live freely without being shackled by their caste.

After turning five, his parents gave him the name "Dhruv." It was his new name in this life, and as time passed, he started going into the forest with his father to hunt other animals besides fish. On his first day entering the forest, his father told him about the dangers of the forest, such as wild animals, demons, or other poisonous insects and snakes. It was the first time he had heard about demons, and he was very shocked to hear that demons really existed here. His father told him that they did not usually come into villages because the kingdom was protected by spells and knights who repelled demons, but they might encounter them in the forest. If he saw them, he was told to run back outside the forest. As his father saw him stressed, his father told him not to stress, as it was very rare for them to come to these outskirts of the forest.

Eight-year-old Dhruv was ready for his first expedition to the demon forest with his small sword on his waist.
