Chapter 73 - System Crash

The final whistle of normal time was a mercy blow to the Wolves players and a starting pistol for the Apex United celebrations.

The small corner of traveling fans was a cauldron of delirious noise, a pocket of joyous rebellion in the stunned silence of Molineux.

On the pitch, the Apex players were a whirlwind of triumphant exhaustion.

"Did you see his face?!" Jonathan Rowe gasped, pointing at the Wolves goalkeeper who was still staring at the spot where the second goal had gone in. "He looked like he'd seen a ghost!"

"We are ghosts!" David Kerrigan yelled, his earlier red card completely forgotten in the euphoria of the comeback.

"They can't predict us! We're un-predict-a-ball!"

Ben Gibson, the scorer of the most unlikely equalizer in history, was just laughing, a huge, booming sound of pure relief.

"I just ran," he said to anyone who would listen.

"I just ran, and the ball was there!"

Ethan watched them, a feeling of immense pride swelling in his chest.
