Chapter 94: The Dead Do Not Need Correction
"Of course, it's my own life," Ling Yuan chose without any hesitation.
"Then that's it," Qin Xuan said in a deep voice. "Rather than losing both life and dignity to uphold some so-called 'honor of the strong,' it's better to go all out and kill the opponent from the start. A battlefield is not a spirit-fighting contest. The enemy is coming for your life. That so-called dignity is just a tool for weaker enemies to morally blackmail you. To protect your own honor, you must kill them without mercy."
Ling Yuan listened, half-understanding, but she grasped the core principle: she could not show mercy to her enemies. Anyone who dared to threaten her young man, she would use any means necessary to kill them.
In the center of the Douluo Hall stood a ten-meter-tall, golden statue of a Seraphim. Three pairs of brilliant energy wings spread out behind its back, and it held a huge golden sword pointed at the sky, a faint layer of golden flame swirling around the blade. The statue exuded a supreme aura, under which the spiritual coffins of hundreds of Titled Douluo from throughout history quietly slumbered.
The Douluo Hall was the most sacred place for Spirit Masters. In this era, before Spirit Hall's reputation was tarnished by Tang Hao, almost all Spirit Masters considered it an honor to be interred here after death. It was also the place where one received a Title, an honor reserved only for the most influential Spirit Masters who reached the Titled Douluo realm.
The last person to be crowned in the Douluo Hall was the Supreme Pontiff, Qian Xunji, who was hailed as Spirit Hall's once-in-a-millennium genius. Today, after nearly a decade, someone else was about to step into this hallowed ground.
Inside the hall, almost every Titled Douluo of Spirit Hall had arrived. The only ones absent were the First High Priest, Qianjun Douluo, and the Seventh High Priest, Jiangmo Douluo, who were at a critical juncture in their seclusion.
At the foot of the massive statue, Qian Daoliu stood quietly. Beside and half a step behind him were Supreme Pontiff Qian Xunji, the Second High Priest Golden Crocodile Douluo, and the other high priests. Below them, a host of Titled Douluo Elders, led by Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo, stood in two solemn lines.
At the end of one of these lines stood a person who was neither an Elder nor the one being honored. His long, black hair cascaded down his back, and he wore a form-fitting, fiery red robe. His handsome features and calm demeanor were such that even surrounded by Titled Douluo, he did not seem out of place. This person was Qin Xuan.
Qian Daoliu had made an exception and allowed him to enter, both to increase Jing Ni's sense of belonging to Spirit Hall and because Qin Xuan himself was qualified. Though he was only a Spirit Saint, his hundred-thousand-year seventh spirit ring and two great domains gave him strength comparable to a Titled Douluo—a feat unheard of in history.
"Second Majesty truly has boundless prospects," an aged voice echoed in Qin Xuan's ears. "Even His Holiness the Supreme Pontiff holds you in high regard."
Qin Xuan glanced at the old man beside him, Golden Bell Douluo, a level 93 defense-type Titled Douluo who had once repeatedly suggested killing him. "You flatter me, Elder," he replied without emotion. "I was merely lucky. Everything is thanks to my wife."
The other personal guard of Qian Xunji was Silver Hammer Douluo, a level 94 attack-type Titled Douluo. Before Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo rose to prominence, these two were known as the Twin Pillars of the Supreme Pontiff Palace. In the original story, Qin Xuan couldn't understand how they, along with Qian Xunji, a level 95 Titled Douluo, could have lost to a newly-promoted Tang Hao. Was Spirit Ring Detonation really that formidable?
Now, he understood. They hadn't lost unfairly. Their fighting style was idiotic. They clung to a foolish "dignity of the strong," giving their opponent openings when they should have pressed the attack. It would have been a miracle if they hadn't lost.
However, Qin Xuan had no intention of correcting this flaw. In his eyes, Golden Bell Douluo, Silver Hammer Douluo, and Qian Xunji were already dead men. He was a petty person and would not allow those who had once wanted to kill him to continue living.
