"Zara wasn't in the mood to shop anymore. Seeing that Evander was still on the phone, she walked over to the entrance of the mall by herself and found a quiet corner to sit and wait for him.
'Miss, why are you all alone? It's a shame for such a beautiful woman to be without a man!' Zara was startled. Three thugs stood before her, all wearing sunglasses and with long hair. They were grinning as they slowly approached her.
She scrambled to her feet, backing away. 'Don't come any closer! I'll scream!'
One of the men laughed loudly, rushing forward and yanking at her clothes. 'Go ahead and scream! We're so scared!' He tore her shirt, and the other two men, laughing, came forward to grope her. 'What a hot chick, brother likes!'
Terrified, she yelled and kicked her arms and legs. 'Get lost, get away from me!'
Another man stepped up and slapped her. As he was about to slap her again, Evander rushed over, grabbed the man's arm, and twisted it slightly. The man yelped in pain. 'Mercy! Mercy!'
The other two men started to move forward.
'Get out!'
The two men were so scared they fled in a hurry.
'I'm warning you, if you ever dare to molest a woman in public again, I'll send you to the police station!' Evander let go of the man. 'Scram!'
The man fled in a panic.
'Zara, how did you get targeted the moment I took a call? I suspect someone is deliberately targeting you!' Evander said.
'It must be Lise!' Zara told Evander in detail about how Lise had mocked her while she was looking at clothes in the shopping center and how she had fiercely fought back.
'It seems her guts are getting bigger. I'll find some time to talk to her and tell her this can't go on.'
Suddenly, Zara felt a pang of jealousy. She pouted and blurted out, 'The more she acts up, the better. The more she makes a scene, the more it proves how much she loves you! The only way to make her stop is to marry her quickly!'
He was amused, shaking his head. He then leaned his head close to hers, looking at her with a smile. 'Are you jealous?'
She felt her face flush, and she blinked, saying unnaturally, 'Who's jealous? I'm not jealous at all!' With that, she turned and ran off.
He watched her retreating figure, a smile flickering in his deep eyes...
In a stylish, spacious office, Evander was working overtime, reviewing a batch of documents.
The work of the past few days had left him physically and mentally exhausted, and he couldn't help but toss his pen down. A figure flashed involuntarily in his mind. He shook his head and smiled, then, after a moment of contemplation, as if making a major decision, he dialed her number. 'Zara, come to my office.'
Zara was just about to fall into a daze when her phone rang. She grabbed it and saw it was Evander. She sat up straight with a jolt. 'It's so late, what is it?'
'Please don't ask your boyfriend and future boss that question. I want you here, now!' Evander hung up without waiting for a reply.
After hanging up, he looked at his phone and smiled to himself.
'What a jerk, so rude! I'm not going!' Zara sat on her bed, angry and unmoving.
Suddenly, the phrase 'future boss!' popped into her mind. She cocked her head, pondering it. Then, her eyes lit up. She quickly got out of bed, grabbed her backpack, and went to the garage, driving to his office.
About half an hour later, Zara arrived at Evander's office. Seeing him engrossed in his work, she quietly stood by his side. About 10 minutes later, he looked up and saw her standing there respectfully, obviously afraid of disturbing him. He chided, 'Why didn't you say something when you arrived?'
'You look so good when you're working!' she said with an admiring look.
He was taken aback. This girl seemed genuinely interested in working. 'I'm sorry for calling you here so late!'
She was a little unaccustomed to him suddenly being so polite, so she said, 'How could I not come when my boyfriend and future boss calls me? I'd come back from the dead a few times!'
He smiled knowingly, motioned for her to sit down, and said seriously, 'There's a programmer position open at the Salmart branch. It's a bit far from headquarters, in City K. Are you willing to give it a try?'
'Really?' Zara's mouth fell open, and her eyes widened as she stared at him.
'When have I ever lied to you? I'm just sorry to make you work out there, but I'm sure you understand why I've arranged this?'
'I understand, of course, I understand!' Her eyes sparkled, and she nodded repeatedly as she gazed at him.
He smiled. 'Then get ready. The sooner you can start, the better!' With that, he stood up. 'Let's go, together!' The two walked out of the office building side by side.
Sitting in his car, she was so excited that she didn't know what to say. She just kept looking at him through the rearview mirror. With his lips slightly parted and a natural expression, he had a unique soft beauty in the luxurious, quiet car. She couldn't help but stare. He turned his head, looked at her, and couldn't help but chuckle.
'What are you laughing at?'
'Am I that handsome?'
She felt her face burning and quickly turned her head to look out the window, saying nothing.
The car shot forward and soon stopped in the garage of his private estate.
The two got out of the car. As they were about to part ways inside the house, he suddenly raised his arms and shouted, 'Go, Zara, go! I believe in you, you can do it!'
She was surprised, then smiled at him, raising her arms and shouting, 'Go!'
He smiled and turned to walk toward his bedroom. Suddenly, he was as happy as a child, jumping three feet high and running forward excitedly. Seeing this, tears welled up in her smiling eyes.
Back in her room, Zara lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. She finally called Sophia.
'Sophia, I finally have a job! Guess what my position is?'
'My dear, with you on the case, it has to be a senior programmer!'
'Sophia, you're teasing me! You know I have no work experience. I can only be a junior programmer!'
'You're just starting out. Believe in yourself, you can get promoted quickly!'
'The thing is, I have to go to City K to work!'
'City K?' Sophia paused. Zara sensed that her friend wanted to ask something, and before she could speak, Zara said directly, 'Are you going to say that as a contract girlfriend, not a real one, I still have to sacrifice and go to a place as far away as City K to work?'
'Zara, you know I'll miss you! It's too far; it won't be easy to see you. What about your mom?'
'My mom has a caregiver. I'll come back to visit her often.' Zara paused. 'I can actually understand Evander. He wants me to have a clean slate! If people knew that I, his 'girlfriend,' was working under him, it wouldn't look good.'
'Are you in love with him?'
'I'm not sure.'
'Well, good luck! I hope you figure things out soon!'"
