Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 - Changing Time (2)

Over the past five years Lawyer's ability to analyze Liam's body developed rapidly, breaking through boundaries that he initially did not even imagine. In the past... He was only able to regulate small things such as triggering or restraining the release of sweat, analyzing the rough data from Liam's eyes, ears, nose, skin, and tongue; or simply affecting limited reflexes at any given time. It all felt like simple health records, raw data with no depth. But slowly, the scope expanded; the layers of the body that were previously locked away began to open up, and every part was now a field that he could measure with almost absolute precision.

He can now count the amount of blood flowing at every point of Liam's body, monitor its journey from the heart to the toes and back again to repeat the cycle; he does so as if he is staring at a living map in constant motion, updated every second without pause. He was able to detect pressure changes in each vessel segment, observe when the blood flowed faster or slower; and record the reasons, in addition to the numbers.

The number of active neurons in Liam's brain can now be counted down to the lowest unit; he knows how the pattern changes when Liam is talking, studying, or stuck in a long daydream. The speed of nerve signal conduction is also measured in fractions of a millisecond, allowing the Lawyer to detect impending movement even before Liam is aware of his intentions. Working memory capacity, focus levels and decision-making quality are no longer just assumptions; they are hard numbers that he sees in real-time, complete with ups and downs caused by factors such as sleep quality and hormonal dynamics.

Bone density is no longer just static medical data; he knows which parts are stronger thanks to regular training, which are slightly decreased due to lack of weight, and can even predict injury risk before symptoms appear. His heart rate he reads like a secret language, isolating the small variations between each beat to know whether it is a sign of fatigue, nervousness, or being in optimal condition. His blood pressure is monitored at all times, spotting sudden spikes when Liam is startled or the slowly decreasing tension when he is resting.

Blood oxygen levels are another important parameter in his records; he knows when they drop due to strenuous activity, and when they stabilize. Breathing frequency was also recorded with such precision that he knew when Liam held his breath for half a cycle without realizing it. Lung volume is no longer an estimate; he knows the exact capacity, even the small variations that occur when Liam is sick or experiencing fatigue.

The total amount of blood Liam has is recorded down to the milliliter. Followed by the hormone levels that change according to the daily cycle is the data he keeps, along with the muscle mass that slowly increases thanks to exercise, and the body fat percentage that goes up and down following the diet. The transit time of food in the digestive system can be predicted with great accuracy, as can the number of white blood cells and antibodies ready to react to disease threats.

Even data that sounds trivial does not escape his scrutiny: total sperm count, weight accurate to the gram, height measured to the millimeter, hearing threshold that determines the lowest and highest sound frequencies Liam can hear, visual acuity that changes little by little depending on the lighting, olfactory threshold that decreases or increases depending on sinus conditions, taste threshold for certain flavors, skin thickness in various areas of the body, and reaction time to sudden stimuli.

The human body, especially Liam himself, has limits that can be measured through various athletic parameters. Walking and running speed represent the efficiency of the stride as well as the ability of the leg muscles to maintain a certain rhythm; the range of a long or high jump reveals how much power he can release in one burst of movement; activities such as swimming highlight the coordination of breathing and muscle strength in an environment that provides resistance; endurance shows the extent to which his body can work for long durations without losing performance stability; while muscle strength is the main determinant of thrust and lifting power against a load. Other limitations can be seen in Liam's agility in changing directions, flexibility to maximize space for movement without injury, and balance that keeps his body stable in dynamic conditions; coordination between eyes and limbs ensures precise movements, while breathing control affects the ability to maintain activity intensity. All of these parameters, while often seen in various sports, are natural measures that describe the potential and limitations of the human physique in various situations.

They are not abilities that come out of nowhere, Lawyers need a long time and countless trials to adapt to this massive flow of data. At first the sensation felt unfamiliar and disturbing, as if Liam's entire body was infested with swarms of microscopic insects that moved relentlessly; it felt like they crawled on every inch of skin, infiltrated between muscles, then across bones, leaving a strange yet persistent tingling sensation for 24 hours. At times, he felt Liam's body as if it were turning into water flowing along the path of blood vessels and nerve channels; in such moments he felt like he was drifting in a current that branched out at the intersection of vessels, then merged back towards the center, losing the boundary between himself as an observer and the body he was observing. On other occasions, the sensation resembled thousands of fine threads crisscrossing the body tightening from within and then loosening in an unpredictable pattern. Over time, he came to understand that all these strange sensations were biological body mechanisms. A swish in the fingertips could mean a change in local blood pressure, tiny tremors behind the eyes could indicate visual fatigue, and irregular pulsations in the wrists could be an early sign of stress.

He envisions one day being able to calculate these bodily conditions with 100% accuracy without any discrepancies; to the point where he knows when a single blood cell will die, when an antibody will react to a newly introduced virus, or when a certain nerve signal will reach a muscle before Liam has time to think about it. If this level of precision continued to increase… Then Liam's body would be home to his library's consciousness, a fully optimized machine where every biological process ran with absolute efficiency; on the other hand, high-accuracy control made it easier to play the role of an omnipotent system.
