When the twins, Royd and Lloyd Lloyd, were born, even the doctors and nurses who delivered them mistook one for the other.
Since no one could tell which of them was the elder or the younger, their parents were informed incorrectly-and because their parents couldn't tell either, the mix-up was simply accepted as fact.
Thus began the lifelong question that defined the brothers: which one was truly the elder?
Before either of them could even speak, they had already begun unconsciously imitating one another-mirroring breath, heartbeat, and expression.
They realized this strange phenomenon only after reaching five years of age. By twelve, they had discovered that this shared ability extended beyond each other-they could now mimic others as well.
Lloyd Loyd, the elder brother, could imitate the opponent's appearance, posture, strength, and skills.
Royd Loyd, the younger, could imitate appearance, posture, memory, and psychology.
---
"I-I'm… so sorry…"
Heavy rain fell across the Seireitei, masking the sounds of war and leaving only silence in its wake.
Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni narrowed his eyes at the man before him.
"Wait! Who do you think you're apologizing to, Yhwach?" he demanded. "You started this battle yourself! You lost it yourself! So who is it you're apologizing to?"
Standing under the torrential downpour, the one wearing Yhwach's face raised his hand slowly.
"I failed to carry out the task you entrusted to me, Your Majesty…"
Yamamoto's expression hardened, then shifted to shock. "You-who are you!?"
"Your Majesty… Yhwach," the imitation said softly.
As he spoke, his tone transformed-the deep baritone of the Quincy King faded into the rich, youthful resonance of another man entirely. Royd Loyd's true identity was revealed.
---
At that moment, a pillar of blue spiritual light erupted into the sky-from the direction of the 1st Division barracks.
"Gotei…!" Yamamoto roared.
Fabric rustled violently through the storm as someone moved faster than light itself.
Suddenly, the true Yhwach appeared behind him.
"Bastard… you!" Yamamoto turned sharply, fury flashing across his face.
Yhwach ignored the rage in his tone and instead looked down at the injured man lying before him.
"Well done, Sternritter 'Y'-'Yourself,' Royd Loyd. You perfectly concealed my absence."
Lloyd and Royd Loyd-both members of the Sternritter of the Wandenreich.
As the elder, Lloyd could perfectly imitate the enemy's strength and abilities.
As the younger, Royd could completely replicate their personality and memories.
Royd had already been defeated earlier by Zaraki Kenpachi. Now, his broken body lay before his sovereign.
Royd forced out his final words between coughs of blood. "You said… I performed… very well… I am… honored…"
Yhwach silently raised his hand. A black sigil formed beneath his palm, and the shape of a five-pointed star spread across Royd's chest.
In the next instant, Royd's body dissolved into nothingness-leaving behind only the faint outline of scorched earth where he had lain.
---
"What were you doing before this?" Yamamoto demanded coldly.
Yhwach turned his gaze toward the distance.
"What lies beneath the 1st Division barracks?"
"...the Great Underground Prison-Muken," Yamamoto answered through clenched teeth.
"I went to see Aizen Sōsuke," Yhwach replied, turning away.
Yamamoto's eyes widened in disbelief.
---
Deep in the unlit depths of Muken, two faint violet lights flickered in the oppressive darkness.
Even in the absence of light, both Yhwach and Aizen could see without difficulty-their spiritual senses made the shadows irrelevant.
"Yhwach," Aizen said calmly. "I know your name in many ways. I simply didn't expect to meet you face to face."
"There's no point asking what you're doing here," he continued coolly. "Your spiritual pressure told me everything the moment you arrived."
Yhwach regarded him silently for several seconds before speaking.
"Very well. Aizen Sōsuke-member of the special war potentials-join me."
"The King of the Quincy is asking me to join the Wandenreich?" Aizen smiled faintly. "You intend to destroy Soul Society as well, then? You think our goals are the same?"
"Are they not?" Yhwach asked.
"I refuse," Aizen said without hesitation.
"...What?"
"As the King of the Quincy, you hunt down Shinigami without restraint. I find it distasteful," Aizen replied calmly. "I cannot align myself with someone so shortsighted."
"Is that your answer?"
"It is," Aizen said simply. "And you came here because you consider me dangerous-a rival that must eventually be dealt with."
"Indeed," Yhwach admitted. "However, since you've already fused with the Hōgyoku, killing you or sealing you would consume too much time. I've decided this meeting should be brief-for both our sakes."
With that, Yhwach turned his back and exited Muken, leaving Aizen chained in silence once again.
---
Moments later, Yhwach stood once again before Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni.
"How pitiful," he said mockingly. "After fighting only my body double, are you already spent, old man?"
Yamamoto's reiatsu flared violently.
"What nonsense! Bankai!"
Just as his sword ignited with flame, Yhwach extended his arm. A sigil ignited from the black device in his hand-the Medallion-and dark blue energy erupted forth.
In seconds, the flames of Zanka no Tachi were consumed, their light absorbed into the medallion's abyssal core.
Yhwach's expression remained calm as he spoke with bitter finality.
"Your Bankai was not impossible to steal-it was simply too powerful for anyone but me to control. That's why I ordered Royd not to activate the Medallion until I arrived."
His tone shifted colder. "What will you do now, Yamamoto Genryūsai? Attempt to use your dead soldiers as weapons again?"
"Damn you!" Yamamoto shouted.
Yhwach raised his hand once again. A massive bow of reishi materialized above him, forming into luminous lines that stretched across the sky. He drew from that bow a single arrow of pure spirit energy and thrust it downward into the ground-stone and gravel exploding outward in its wake.
As the light condensed into his grasp, it transformed into the shape of a sword woven from reishi threads.
"Farewell, Yamamoto Shigekuni," Yhwach said evenly.
With unshaken composure, he swung the blade down through the rain-soaked air.
