With Lucas's unique video being released,
it quickly became a hot topic among Minecraft players, and also caught the attention of many who had only heard of the game but never tried it.
Compared to the jaw-dropping showcase videos before,
this one felt a lot more down-to-earth and familiar.
After all, those flashy videos were really impressive.
But for most players, it was just something fun to watch. They'd rather wait for the pros to upload their creations to the workshop, then download them and mess around for a bit.
But if you asked them to actually make something themselves?
Sorry, not happening!
This time though, the Minecraft "big events in history" video Lucas released showed things that many players had really done.
Like not knowing how to build a house, so they just dug a hole, placed a torch and a bed, and got through the night.
Or the classic first-night panic, being chased by monsters, and surviving with the legendary "dig three, fill one" move.
Of course, there were unlucky ones too. Some dug the wrong spot, opened three blocks, and fell straight into a huge cave, losing their first life for nothing.
Players who had taken part in these big server events felt even more fired up.
"Haha, I'm from Server 111. We're rebuilding Laputa, the Castle in the Sky! We're planning to make the entire city floor out of glass! But man, so many unlucky guys didn't see the transparent glass and just fell right through while building."
"That's nothing! On Server 3511, we hit lava while digging — set me on fire instantly! Now we've decided to build an artificial lava river. Our underground city will be called Lava City!"
"Haha, I'm from Server 2147. Everyone was fighting with iron weapons, and then this farmer pulled out a gun. The whole era just shifted right there! Too funny!"
"Damn, brother above, that's crazy! Whose idea was that Chamber of Commerce Alliance?"
"How should I know? I wasn't there when they made it. I was the one who got shot!"
"Actually, that's nothing. To make it into the next 'big events' video, the folks on Server 188 signed a peace treaty and decided to finish building a whole city. We even picked a respected leader to lead us to greatness!"
"Holy crap, that's awesome! Marking this. Bro, update us if there's new stuff, I'm curious!"
"Mark what? Everyone wants to be the boss, the group's already falling apart! We planned to have a three-branch government system, but it's already split into tribes."
...
Besides all the crazy directions servers were going in, players also had plenty of fun trying different ways to play.
Some still stayed in single-player creative mode, happily building what they thought were beautiful houses.
Others teamed up to try out multiplayer server gameplay.
The videos also pushed players to study the game more deeply.
Things like redstone tech, hidden mechanics, and even some who had already found the Nether.
Some hardcore players started studying the complex redstone system, hoping to create something even more amazing.
And others took it further — starting to make all kinds of MODs.
Not just redstone contraptions or big build MODs, but ones with unique gameplay.
Even players who couldn't make MODs started setting up custom servers with special rules to host fun mini-games.
For example, downloading the Riverside theme map, making custom ancient-style skins, and hiding player IDs in-game.
Then, 20 normal players enter the Riverside map, while 2 players play as killers with weapons.
The rest had to blend in with NPCs or hide until the timer ran out.
The killers would lose one heart of health every time they struck the wrong person.
Games like these custom mini-game rooms started to spread fast.
There were even puzzle challenges where one big build was split apart, and two teams raced to piece it back together first.
Although there weren't any official rules yet, players relied on their own agreements and server-made rules.
One by one, unique playstyles were born inside Minecraft.
And this matched perfectly with the name of the game.
Everyone had a world of their own.
Everyone had a way of playing that was theirs alone.
By this point, the charm of Minecraft had fully shown itself.
Of course, with so many players, there were bound to be some annoying newbies, as well as old players who liked to bully them.
But compared to the overall community, thanks to Minecraft's game rules, its slightly cartoonish art style, and Nebula Games' strong community management…
Minecraft stood apart from other games. In an online era filled with toxicity, it became a breath of fresh air.
This healthy community kept the game's popularity steady and drew even more players in.
And the sales miracle that Minecraft created left the entire gaming industry stunned.
Many game designers thought they had already rated Minecraft highly enough.
But as days went by, reality proved they had still underestimated it.
By mid-March, a month and a half after launch, plenty of new games had released.
But all of them were still crushed under Minecraft's heat.
For the designers releasing their games in this period, it was almost like a battlefield full of casualties.
...
Lucas didn't pay much attention to his peers' struggles.
In Nebula Games' office, he stepped out of the game pod and took the phone Hector handed him.
"Lucas, we've already tested all the major mobile platforms. Optimization has pretty much hit the limit," Hector explained.
The mobile and VR versions of the game were basically finished.
It wasn't too much work. For the mobile version, it was just about optimizing well and trimming some content.
The VR version mainly focused on model textures and the VR control experience.
But this wasn't Lucas's first time with VR. Back when he made Silent Hill PT for Game Division, he had already dealt with VR actions and adaptation, so it wasn't much of a challenge now.
"Looks good. Tell the marketing team to get ready to announce it," Lucas said with a small nod after playing around with it for a bit.
