Chapter 93 - The Court of Lumea

Sylene looked thoughtful, "The room is all wonderful and beautiful, but…" his voice wavered. "I… I can't stay there. I aimed a gun at you. I shouldn't be there…"

Sir Melchior set down his cutlery and fixed him with a steady stare.

"But you didn't fire it," he said. "You deflected it. Who said you can't stay there?"

"No...one…" Sylene murmured, guilt knotting his stomach. The kindness felt undeserved. He felt condemned by his own conscience.

"You'll follow me from now on," Sir Melchior continued calmly, "even if the king or humans don't agree with it. Tell them what happened during that mission and why that man wanted you dead."

"You only need to say that—and I'll handle the rest. Tomorrow, both of us will stand as witnesses." the little sparrow is condemning himself again, he sighed. Pity.

He reached for his glass again.

"Regulus will stay with you until you settle," he added. The lion flicked his tail happily before continuing to eat.
