All his life, Sylene had worked hard just to live.
To survive.
Life had never been easy for him—but not all of it was bad, either. There were moments like this, rare and quiet, that softened the sharp edges. If hardship found him again—and he knew it would—he wanted to remember this feeling. To remember now.
Because the people who appeared in his life, made him want to keep going.
To live better.
To live well.
The taste of steak sent a low moaning sound from his throat as his growling stomach finally settled. The meat was tender, soaked in rich juices. The sauce clung perfectly to every bite. Mashed potatoes melted on his tongue, warm and buttery, and the creamy soup lingered comfortingly in his chest.
It was… good.
Too good.
Live well.
Sylene slowed down, spoon hovering as the thought returned.
Yes.
He really was living too well right now.
