Lara threw off her blankets and stood quickly, the uneasy feeling in her chest too strong to ignore. She pulled on a plain gown and tied it with hurried hands before throwing a cloak over her shoulders. Her heart pounded as she stepped into the hallway.
The two guards outside her door straightened at once when they saw her.
"Lady Lara?" one asked, worry in his voice. "Do you need something?"
"Come," Lara said firmly, already walking down the dim hall. The tone of her voice left no room for questions.
The guards followed close behind, their boots echoing on the stone floor. With every step, the heavy pull in her chest grew stronger, pressing against her ribs like a warning.
