Aedric arrived in Vargorath feeling anxious. He had been traveling for some time, hoping to find his mate. When he heard what had happened in Dreamore, he hurried to the city.
Relief washed over him when he learned that Lara's parents had arrived in Vargorath before the destruction began. He had left Corin and Liam and Gerda, and he was glad to know they were all safe.
He urged his horse closer and dismounted, moving among the people. Some stared at him with fear and suspicion. Others wept quietly. The sight of so much loss made his stomach tighten.
A Dreamore guard approached him. "My prince," the man said, "are you looking for someone?"
"Where is Rell?" Aedric asked.
"I saw her enter the forest, this way," the guard replied, pointing.
"Thank you," Aedric said, and he ran after her.
It was getting dark but he had to see her. He knew he had no right to look for her. He had abandoned her and rejected their love.
