Before she could react, shadows moved with unnatural speed as ten masked rogue assassins emerged from the darkness.
Where did they come from?
"Ambush!" Kaelith shouted, shifting into his lycan form. He lunged, his claws flashing, tearing into the first rogue assassin before the man could even raise his head.
Lara had already moved.
She held a sword she'd taken from the port city of Dravenmoor. It felt light in her hands as she stepped forward without fear. One clean arc and an assassin's head rolled across the ground before his body even realized it was dead.
Blood hit the dirt and she moved to the other rogues.
Jax's massive form behind her slammed into two attackers, one crushed beneath his weight, the other flung hard against a tree with a sickening crack.
Before long the assassins were dead.
"They know we are here," Lara said. "We need to get closer to the castle."
