Chapter 129 - Ryan's Threat

Ruth turned to me, her voice soft, pleading. "Dexter… you must help Aunt Hina… well… and thank her properly…"

I chuckled in my head. Thank her properly. Oh, I would. But not the way Ruth thought.

I looked at Hina, my voice serious, solemn. "I will definitely thank Aunt Hina well…"

Ruth nodded, satisfied, and stood with Kerry, their eyes following us as Hina pulled me away. Ryan also walked with us, looking confused.

Ryan cleared his throat, his voice weak, hesitant. "That… Hina… why don't you let Dexter take a rest… and those herbs can wait till morning…"

Hina's hold on me grew tighter, and her voice, although a bit icy, showed no doubt, was conclusive: "Because, Ryan... some things can't wait...". With her nails scraping down my arm, she was still saying: "And Dexter is one of them."

Ryan moved away quickly, Hina's sharp look almost cutting him to pieces, but he didn't say anything, and silently, as if overcome by guilt, he followed us to Hina's hideout.
