The words hung in the air between them while her smile was frozen solid on her face.
She then blinked slowly, thinking that maybe the champagne was playing some sort of nasty trick on her ears or something.
But no, Alex Vance's eyes were deadly serious in a way that felt totally wrong under these bright party lights.
"I still love you, Lorena," he repeated, his voice even more tender this time.
Mira could do nothing other than stare blankly at him again. But she soon realized she needed to say something, so she let out an awkward and strangled laugh.
"You have to be as drunk as I am."
But even she knew that he definitely wasn't drunk at all because his face was too clear and focused. He obviously knew exactly what he was saying.
He leaned in a little again. "You can pretend all you want, Lorena, but I know even you can still feel it too."
