Chapter 1 - ⛈Rain on your Parade, chapter 1: Eden Wang⋆˚꩜.ᐟ

⊹₊ ˚‧︵‿₊୨୧₊‿︵‧ ˚ ₊⊹

Don't look at the moon.

Don't look at the moon. That's the text message. From the weather app. Odd.

I'm on my bed just chilling, scrolling on my phone, not looking at the moon. I have been living with my brother, Zac since our parents died and now I pay the rent and he does the housework. Normally, I would hear him snoring from the floor below, or, despite him being the oldest, he would come crying to me every time he had a nightmare, but this time, it's eerily quiet, pindrop silence.

Something feels off.

Just when I'm about to get off of my phone and check on him my phone rings again. Another notification.

I was expecting it to be Jules, my best friend. She often messages me in the middle of the night as she loves our late night conversations, but this time it's not her, it's–

F-father..?

How?? Isn't he dead? Who got his phone?

I open my phone to check the message, my fingers are literally trembling so much, I'm afraid to drop my phone. I finally unlock my phone and check what the message is:

The moon is lovely, isn't it? Look out the window, sweetheart.

I'm sorry, WHAT? Who in the world is this? Why are they texting from my dad's number? And didn't the weather app just tell me to not look at the moon? Is this a weird sort of dream?

Wait, hold on, this isn't my dad. He never called me sweetheart. He didn't even like me-

Another message:

I know you're here, just look out. Don't listen to them, just look, child. I'm watching you…

Yeah no, this dude isn't my father, he didn't even like having to call me his child. I toss my phone on the bed and go downstairs to check on my brother.

'Zac?' I call out nervously, the floor creaking with every single step I take. Suddenly, I hear thumping sounds and screams coming from downstairs.

Zac is in trouble..probbably because he looked at the moon…

I run downstairs as fast as I can, screaming his name. Once I reach his door, I not so heroically break it, a frightened Zac looks into my eyes. He somehow got his entire dresser blocking the window, and a creepy shadowy hand trying to push the dresser to get into the house as Zac pushes the dresser against it.

'Zac! What happened!?' I gasp.

He stutters, 'I..I may have looked at the moon and I think that's what made–' He grunts, trying to keep the monster out of the window–'that's what made it come into our house..'

I help him by also pushing the dresser. 'Why the hell did you look out the window in the first place?'

'Because father said so.'

Oh…what a coincidence–

I stop pushing and suddenly, whatever that monster thing was breaks free of our pushing and lunges at us. I quickly grab my brother's arm as we both are at the edge of the window.

'What the hell–'

Before he can even complete his sentence, I push him out the window but make sure he doesn't look at the moon while holding his hand. We both land onto the grass, the landing smooth but hard at the same time.

'What was that for?' Zac pouts

'I helped us get out of this. Be grateful.'

'We could've died, are you dumb?' He snaps at me.

'Dumb?' I scoff, 'Says the one who looked at a shiny sphere just because some random person told you to.'

'Are you calling our father a random person?' He shouts back.

'Please, he may be your father but he sure isn't mine–'

Before I finish my sentence, the sound of a gunshot travels through the air, the bullet shooting through Zac's leg.

No..please, not my brother..

I stand there, my hands on my mouth. I'm startled, dumbfounded, perplexed, and–and..

I look up at the person that shot him. The man is wearing a robe with a hood, having some pure golden jewelry. Even the accents of the robe are golden. He has long bony hands decorated with rings and he wears a golden chained belt. I can't see his eyes, thanks to the hood, but I notice him smirking at me, revealing pure, white teeth.

'Who–' I gasp, taking a step back. 'Who are you?'

He laughs mischievously as he takes the hood off while taking a step forward, 'You would never guess..'

He sounds way too familiar..

'K-Kade..?' I stutter.

He nods..

Kade is Zac's best friend, why would he do this? And why the heck is he in a robe?

'Why did you kill my brother?'I take another step back, grabbing the rake next to me.

He sighs. 'He was not your brother..'

He stomps his foot onto the thing who is lying on the floor, showing some weird shadowy creature that looked oddly like the one popping from the window except it had yellow eyes and this one has bloody ones.

I'm hyperventilating. 'W-where is he then-'

'He–he's gone..' Kade wipes a tear.

'Where!?'My voice sounds dry.

'He's dead. The monster took over him and changed him into those shadowy things. They are called Zeeths, once someone becomes a Zeeth, they are not human and do not identify as themselves, and they attack humans until everyone on Earth becomes Zeeths'

My green eyes widen,

'No..' I blink back tears.

'Luckily, this one is gone, and to live a normal life, we are gonna have to leave this place.' He said as if he didn't kill his own best friend, but I see a hint of pain in his dead but radiant violet eyes. 'So pack up. We are running away..'

'Wait..' I need to process this. Running away? Leaving the houses we once called home??'

'Yes, unfortunately no good thing lasts forever, ever heard of that saying?'

'Of course I'm not that dumb, Einstein.' I frown at him.

He clears his throat. 'Uhm..Yeah totally…anyway, pack everything you need and quickly come down. I'm waiting.'

'Can you at least help me?' I scoff.

He groans. 'Alright I will since you're so lazy to do things by yourself..'

He opens the door for me, that's the kindest thing he's done in a while.

'After you.' He bows, smirking like he's some noble man. I scowl at him before entering the house as he follows behind me, slamming the door hard. We head upstairs, and I toss some random junk in too. Kade complains how I'm packing way too much and I should carry something useful as he hands me my diary but respectfully doesn't peek into it probably because he has his own and knows how it feels. When I think he's not looking, I pack in my brother's favourite jacket but Kade catches me but lets me put it in, the thought of Zac making him almost cry but I pretend to not notice.

'You ready?' He says as we climb down stairs, our hands slightly touching.

'I-I think so..' I stutter.

' "Think so" isn't an option.' We are already out of the house. 'We need to survive this and push ourselves through these limits until we know we are free for now.' He puts the luggage on the ground and places his hands on both of my shoulders while standing concerningly close to me. 'I know this is hard, trust me, and our relationship is...mutual. But we need to work together just this once and defeat these–' He takes a moment to breathe– 'These Zeeths, so that we can live a life that is close to normal, so just cooperate with me for now, alright?'

I take a moment to think about this before nodding, and for the first time, I notice a small smile on his face.

'Good.' He finally looks like he's well slept. He leans back and reaches out a hand for me to take–

'Friends..?'

'Friends.' I smile, taking his hand.
