" What?" Anko couldn't believe her ears. "Uncle, I think you should rethink this."
Anko knew their relationship with that boy was bad now that Kurenai would be the boy's teacher.
"Why do you think that?" Shinku asked.
Anko saw the light on Kurenai's face fade. "Well, even if the father was your student and his mother respects you, that doesn't mean the boy will agree after what happened with Asuma and..." Anko sighed. "You heard what he said when you tried to help the Uchiha. He said he would kill you."
Kurenai's head dropped the moment Anko spoke, remembering that Megumi would surely kill her.
Shinku realized it was Asuma who had started the conflict. "So now you mean he hates you guys, including Asuma?"
"Yes," Anko replied, her eyes fixed on the food in front of her.
Shinku was silent for a moment. "Okay. How about I follow you to meet him tomorrow morning?" he said.
"Really? Thanks, Dad." Kurenai was overjoyed that her father would accompany her to meet the new student.
"Why are you smiling? You better pray that brat will accept or refuse," Anko taunted her friend.
"Okay, that's enough. Now eat up," Shinku said before continuing his meal.
...
"Damn you, Kaede." Elder Tsunayoshi could not believe what he had heard from the other elders' reports and from some of Danzo's people about how she had turned that weak boy into someone who could defeat a two-tomoe Sharingan Uchiha.
And she even made a main house Hyuga elder's grandson submit with only pressure. That was a big statement. That had never happened in Nara clan history, except for his father, who had once beaten the shit out of the Hizashi Hyuga during an argument.
What surprised him most was that she even escorted the boy to Konoha prison—meaning she was ruthless, even toward her own son.
"Elder Tsunayoshi, what is the next plan?" one of the elders asked.
Tsunayoshi couldn't tell what he and Danzo planned to do to the mother and son. He didn't trust everyone because Danzo had warned him not to tell anyone.
"We will watch how this ends," he said, looking at Tomonori, who was just sipping tea without saying anything.
"This meeting ends here. Everyone is dismissed."
Every member of the Nara clan left. Only Tomonori and Tsunayoshi remained, and neither man was willing to break the silence in the room.
"Why haven't you said anything today?" Tsunayoshi asked. He was frustrated that Tomonori had not left his house and was still drinking his tea like it was his compound.
"Can't I stay in your home for tea again?" Tomonori replied with a smile.
Tsunayoshi couldn't believe what the old man was saying. "When was the last time you came for a drink?"
"Now drop that act and say what you want, Tomonori." Tsunayoshi did not like him because of how he acted.
Tomonori took another sip before clearing his throat. "When is Danzo killing them?"
Tsunayoshi's eyes nearly popped out of his sockets. How did this bastard know about the plan? he thought.
Seeing the expression on Tsunayoshi's face, Tomonori smirked. "I don't care how long you want to be that loyal dog, but if that operation fails I'm snitching on you."
"You should know that I don't trust you."
"Because a man like you could sell prodigies of the clan for self-recognition," Tomonori said before leaving the room.
Tsunayoshi was left alone, watching Tomonori's back as he disappeared from view. He was furious that Tomonori had insulted and warned him.
He clenched his fist and slammed his hand onto the tea table in front of him.
