Chapter 6 - Sacrifice

Silva stared at Peter, he nodded slowly. "Let's do it," he muttered.

He still felt the intense pain from his leg, but Peter helped him get up. Everyone was still unsure of what they were to do right now; the fear had made them unable to make a decision.

But then, as if seeing Silva and Peter get to their feet acted as a catalyst, two guys stood up and made to move. What they didn't expect was for another group of two to get up as well, making four people moving in that moment.

As they stood, they all took a step, and their heads exploded into a mist of blood. Their blood rained down.

Silva and Peter froze; the fear of seeing that happen didn't allow them to even take a step.

Now there was only one lady on the other side. Her face was covered in tears; she curled up in the corner, not saying a single word. She trembled uncontrollably.

"Seems like there are only five of you left, and that means three must die. But now I'll be adding a new rule, every ten seconds, a new group must leave, else two random people die. Isn't that fun? The first countdown starts now." The creature said.

"Ten, nine, eight..." The countdown caused panic, and by the time he got to five, the woman snapped, jumping to her feet and running toward the door eagerly.

Before she could make it halfway, her head exploded and her body collapsed to the ground. She was dead, and only four people remained there.

"Oops, seems like she couldn't take it anymore," the creature said. He then turned to the remaining four.

"I'll start counting again," he said with a smile on his face.

"Wait," Silva screamed, pulling the attention of the creature. The creature looked at him, brows raised. "What do you want, human?" he asked.

"What's your name?" Silva asked.

"Hmmm? My name? What an unimportant question, but I'll tell you. My name is the darkness that shrouds your night, the hunger that consumes, and the messenger of they who sit above.

I am Nubris." He said, and the hall shook as he mentioned his name.

"I see, thank you," Silva said.

"Good, now, the ten seconds count starts now."

Nubris began counting again, from top to bottom. Silva and Peter wanted to move, but when they saw Lewen and Stacy, they knew those two would run, and so it was.

Stacy ran without looking back, and so did Lewen. He was faster and reached the door first, but before he could step outside, a gust of wind came from behind and slammed into him, throwing him off and slamming him into the door.

She ran past, and the only words that could leave her mouth were, "I had to do it." She ran out.

Lewen got up, face covered in fear, sweat all over his body. He fell to his knees, hands stretching out, and begged.

"Please spare me, please allow me to go. I have more use than those two standing there. Please, you can take them, spare my life." Lewen begged.

Peter and Silva looked at him. How could one person be this disgusting? But it was for survival, so everything went.

Nubris looked at Lewen, then shook his head. "I find you very unentertaining. You failed the game, now suffer your punishment." Nubris said.

"No, please, no!!!!!" Lewen screamed, but his head popped like a pimple, and his body lay there on the floor, blood rushing out.

"Now for my final two contestants, it's been short but fun. Now one of you has to die, and one has to survive, so do what you must." Nubris said. He grinned from ear to ear.

Silva looked at Peter, and Peter forced out a smile. He placed his hands on Silva's shoulder. "Bro, it's crazy how this ends. I'm scared down to my bone." He took a deep shaky breath. "But I know I'll trust you to remember me till the end." He said. Silva nodded, tears welling up in his eyes.

They stood close to a door, so they started walking toward it, not running. Nubris watched with keen interest, wanting to see who would leave.

When they arrived at the door, Peter hugged Silva a goodbye hug, tears falling from his eyes.

"I guess this is the end," Peter muttered.

"Yes, it is, for me," Silva said, then wrapped his hands around Peter suddenly and turned around. It happened all so fast that Peter couldn't even react.

Silva pushed Peter out of the door. Peter was stunned, hands stretching out; he yelled as he moved through the doors, "Silvaaaaaa!"

But Silva had a soft smile on his face. "Take care of my sister for me, bro. Make sure she is happy."

Peter went through the gates and the doors closed immediately. He rushed at the door and started slamming it recklessly.

"Silva, no! You can't die, no, please." He punched the door until his hands bled, but nothing he did mattered. He collapsed to the ground in front of the door, sobbing.

Inside the hall, Nubris stared at Silva. "You sacrificed yourself for him, why?" Nubris asked.

"He was willing to give it all up for me in a heartbeat. He wanted to die for me; he deserves to be alive." Silva said.

"Hmm, I see. Well, it doesn't matter, the game will end now." Nubris said and pointed his finger at Silva.

Silva took a deep breath and accepted his fate, he accepted the fact that he was going to die. He closed his eyes and waited.

A purple beam of energy formed on Nubris' finger and then blasted out, the size of a full human. Silva saw the light, and he readied for death.

But then he felt a burning sensation coming from the mark on his hand, and the attack didn't reach him. He opened one eye first, and when he was sure that he was still alive, he opened the other.

The attack didn't hit; rather, a strange energy came from the mark on his hand, and it was shining now, creating a purple dome of energy that blocked the attack.

Nubris watched in shock; he stopped his attack and looked at Silva and the mark on his hand.

"Impossible. I refuse to believe it." Nubris said, and then attacked with an even more terrifying attack. The blast slammed into the shield, and this time, it was harder to block.

Silva felt the brunt all over his body, as if he was trying to carry a mountain. His feet cracked into the ground, his skin tore up with cuts, fractures, and more.

He didn't know what this strange power that he was using was, but it was helping him, and he was going to make sure that he stood strong as much as he could.

But after a few seconds, he was losing consciousness from the deep wounds and other injuries. He couldn't keep it up and collapsed to the ground.

But rather than finish him off, Nubris stood there watching him.

"I guess he might be," he muttered.

[System Synchronization beginning]

Silva saw a purple screen show a message just before he passed out.
