Everyone's heads snapped toward the entrance.
I could see the flicker Avery's his eyes, the way he scanned the room quickly, taking in the silence. He had no idea what he'd just walked into, the boiling pot of frustration I'd been stirring all morning.
Avery stood there for a second, wiping his hands on his trouser. I could tell that he was nervous..
Deep down, a twisted satisfaction bubbled up inside me. I loved this.
He closed the door gently behind him, like he was trying not to make a scene, and bowed slightly.
"Hello," he said, his voice coming out small, almost echoing in the quiet.
I could see the discomfort crawling over his skin, the way his forehead started to glisten with sweat. The room stared at him.
I let the silence stretch, enjoying the way it made him shift uncomfortably.
Come on, Avery, I thought, a smirk tugging at the corners of my mind. Beg me with those eyes.
