Chapter 53- Finally Saying The Truth
LUCIEN >< ><
I stared at my mom, really taking in her face—the way her eyes darted away from mine, the slight crease between her brows that she tried to smooth out with a fake smile. Something was wrong, I could feel it in my gut.
"Mom, why do you look scared? What's going on? Is there something happening that I don't know about? Who are you afraid of?"
For just a split second, her expression froze, like she'd been caught in a lie, and I swear I saw raw fear flash in her eyes. But then she covered it up with this forced laugh.
"What are you talking about?" she snapped, her voice a bit too sharp, like she was overcompensating.
I wasn't buying it. Not even close.
"Mom, I know what I saw. When I mentioned my therapist losing his father, your whole face changed. Why? What aren't you telling me?"
She waved her hand dismissively, trying to play it cool.
"My expression didn't change, Lucian. You're making a big deal out of nothing."
