"I need the marriage certificate between me and Avery," I said flatly, standing over her, arms crossed.
She blinked up at me, her face going from hopeful to shocked in a split second, like I'd just slapped her. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out at first—just a stammer. "W-what… why… why do you need the marriage contract for? What… what are you planning to do with it?"
I looked at her and scoffed, the sound bitter even to my own ears. God, she really thinks she still has a say in this? After everything? "Is the marriage your marriage?" I asked, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
She shook her head slowly, like she was afraid to answer.
"Are you the one married to Avery?" I pressed, leaning in a little.
Again, she shook her head, her lips trembling.
"Then who is the sole owner of the marriage contract?" I asked, pointing right at my chest. "Me. So why aren't you giving me my marriage certificate?"
