If I open this door on my own and walk in, he's going to tell me to go back out and knock again.
So why the hell isn't he answering? I stood there in the hallway, my ear pressed against the door, listening for any sign of life inside.
Nothing but silence. My knuckles ached from knocking, but I kept at it, each knock louder than the last, echoing down the empty corridor.
I knocked again.
And again.
Knocking.
Knocking.
Again.
Over.
And over.
And over again.
This is insane. He's got me out here like a fool, playing this petty power game. What does he get out of it? Watching me squirm from behind his desk?
The anger bubbled, making my face flush. I'd already endured the public humiliation in the meeting room, the endless back-and-forth about knocking, and now this? Standing here like a beggar at his door ?
God, I wanted to kick the door down, storm in, and tell him exactly where he could shove his "rules."
