Chapter 348 - Chapter 348: Draco’s Wand

The wand chooses its own master.

This was the belief passed down through generations of the Ollivander family, and it was the phrase most often on the lips of Garrick Ollivander himself.

Garrick Ollivander had spent most of his life fascinated by the connection between wands and wizards. Combined with his exceptionally pure devotion to wandcraft, he had become one of the finest wandmakers in the wizarding world at a remarkably young age.

His reputation and skill drew countless wizards to Britain solely to purchase a wand crafted by his own hand, rather than buying one locally.

Yet this same master craftsman—so firm in his principles and uncompromising in his craft—had secretly created a wand tailored specifically for Draco Malfoy.

Such an act stood in direct conflict with the beliefs he'd upheld his entire life.

Perhaps it would be the last time he ever allowed himself to do something like this.

And so, the wizards present could never understand why Garrick Ollivander was so emotional in this moment...

"As good as new... Excellent... Absolutely splendid."

"......"

"Excellent, excellent!"

Lost in his own world, Garrick Ollivander had completely forgotten everything around him, including the purpose of today's gathering. Right now, he could only stare at the wand in his hands with absolute absorption.

Watching his reaction, Draco couldn't help recalling what had happened in the past...

Speaking of wands:

Every wizard receives their own wand the year they enter Hogwarts. The rule exists to protect young wizards whose minds are not yet fully developed, and to preserve order within the magical world.

For certain wizarding aristocrats, however, this rule posed no obstacle. Their children often obtained their wands well before enrollment.

It was one of their advantages—and one of the reasons they tended to look down on others...

In short:

The year after Draco's first magical outburst, Lucius Malfoy, recognizing the potential in his son, brought him to Ollivander's Wand Shop to purchase a wand specially for him.

It was on that day that Garrick Ollivander faced the most troublesome customer he had ever encountered.

Among the countless wands crafted from rare and precious materials, not a single one resonated with Draco.

Such a thing had never happened before.

In the end, the wandmaker who had devoted his entire life to wandlore became determined to solve the mystery. He personally crafted a wand uniquely tailored to Draco—unusual, singular, and unlike any other.

And that was why Garrick Ollivander was behaving so uncharacteristically now...

...

As time passed, Ludo Bagman—who seemed increasingly unable to understand Ollivander's behavior—finally spoke up with a hint of impatience.

"Mr. Ollivander?"

"Mm."

"Is it... time for the next champion?"

This excessive attention drew odd looks from the judges, their gazes toward Draco turning noticeably strange. It had to be said, the time spent examining Draco's wand far exceeded the combined time spent on the previous two champions.

Even Harry Potter, who had been dragged out by Rita Skeeter, had already finished his interview and returned.

And judging from Harry Potter's expression—full of suppressed anger—it was clear his interaction with Rita Skeeter had gone poorly. Whatever had happened between them remained a mystery...

From beginning to end, Garrick Ollivander never revealed anything more about the wand. In the midst of everyone's confusion, he finally let out a heavy breath, then returned the wand to Draco with a complicated look in his eyes.

His conflicted, reluctant expression could easily make someone think he was the wand's true master.

Draco noticed the look but said nothing as he took the wand. He understood, though. Ollivander had definitely realized something—there was no other explanation for that expression.

Did he notice? No, he definitely noticed.

With that thought, Draco discreetly slid the wand back into the staff hidden beneath his cloak. As he pondered, his thumb absently traced the carved patterns and lifelike serpent head along the staff.

Those additions had been made later…

Expecting Ollivander not to notice would've been underestimating the master wandmaker far too much.

But for some reason, Mr. Ollivander didn't expose it. Perhaps he believed it wouldn't affect the competition?

However, while Draco and Ollivander exchanged that glance, neither of them noticed the heavy stare Dumbledore sent their way, nor the faint, lingering look he directed at Draco.

That tiny reaction was enough to show the great wizard had also sensed something...

Meanwhile.

Perhaps because Draco's wand looked elegant and luxurious—and had even been praised by Ollivander—Harry Potter glanced uneasily at his own wand, which was covered in fingerprints.

Harry valued his wand deeply and took good care of it, but compared to Draco's, it looked plain and unimpressive...

While everyone was still baffled by Ollivander's strange reaction, Harry quietly lifted a corner of his robe, planning to polish his wand with the fabric to give it a bit more shine.

What he didn't realize was that Rita Skeeter saw every bit of his subtle, secretive movement.

Her quill scratched faster and more intensely, as if she'd just stumbled upon a sensational detail worth writing about...

Meanwhile, Fleur Delacour showed absolutely no interest in Harry Potter's wand inspection. Her proud demeanor made it clear she disliked Harry's timid, insecure behavior. Even the title of "The Chosen One" had no effect on her whatsoever.

Truthfully, among the three champions present, only Viktor Krum showed any unusual initiative toward Harry Potter. Neither Draco nor Fleur paid the fourth champion the slightest attention.

As for why—

Fleur had someone far more interesting occupying her thoughts.

And Draco? Well… this certainly wasn't the first time he'd ignored Harry Potter...
