King's breath caught. Then, forcing a smile, he turned back to Charlotte. "It's nothing. Really. Nothing happened."
Charlotte's brows furrowed, suspicion flashing in her gaze. She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a whisper against King's ear. "I know you're lying. But since this demon is here, I'll let it slide for now. Just make sure you reply to my text."
Her words were a lifeline and a warning all at once. Straightening, Charlotte gave King one last, meaningful look. "I came to check on you because I was so worried. I'll leave now."
She didn't spare Win even a glance. Not a hello, not a nod, she walked past him as though he didn't exist. And Win, in turn, didn't bother to acknowledge her. The silence between them was thick with unspoken hostility.
At the door, Charlotte paused and looked back at King. "See you later, King. I'll text you. Make sure you reply." Then she was gone.
