Chapter 3 - Her Voices

PART 3

A knock on the door followed by the sound of paper being slid across the floor. A letter, like usual. It's been like this for the past week. Constant letters. "Hope you get well!" shut up "Keep your head up!" meaningless "I wish I could visit you!" nonsense "When you're better join us for tea!" forced. By now, all of the high ranked people of Setina had heard that Cyeen was ill. But all she kept getting were letters from people who either wanted some business ties or to intimidate her.

Though the gossip was spread far and wide, Cyeen was not actually sick. But she had gotten pretty close to illness now. After her rage diminished, she hadn't left her room once and ate the bare minimum amount of food. She was actively developing paranoia, getting scared of every single noise, suspecting everyone of trying to harm herself. In addition to that, her head has been ringing non stop all this time.

She kept hearing the voice over and over and over and over... It was driving her insane, it just wouldn't stop. It got to a point. Waking up today, the first thing she did was use the bathroom inside her room to empty her stomach out. The second thing she attempted to do was to cut out the voice by banging her head on the walls. It didn't work well unfortunately. Upon hearing the noises coming from inside the room, one of the maids had quickly entered the room to restrict Cyeen's movement. From then on Cyeen had close to no memory as to how she came to lay on her bed. She only remembered the voice getting more familiar with each bang on the wall. Cyeen took a look at her full body mirror by her bed. She couldn't see her face. Or rather, the silhouette she was seeing did not belong to her. There was not a recognizable feature, it was all a blurry mess.

She had tons of time to think since the ball and her argument with her mother. That time was occasionally interrupted by the returning of the voice. Though, she had made her mind on one single thing. It wasnt enough. Nothing she had was enough. She didn't recieve anything enough. Why didn't she get anything the amount she wanted? Wasn't it her birth right? It was. Yes, yes it was. The people... the people of Setina were trying to take it from her. Yes, they were. They were keeping everything away from her. Yes, they were. Give me what I want. Give me what I'M owed.

Cyeen shook her head, coming to the realisation that she was staring outside the window. Maybe she was a bit hungrier than usual. Probably, she couldn't have been wrong about anything as she was of noble birth, right? Cyeen decided on eating the next meal she'd receive fully. Being malnourished didn't help her think. What was there to even think about though? She was right. But she couldn't make people believe that without it. What was it? Who knows. Maybe it was a magical sword in a rock or maybe a revelation from a god. Either way she didn't know it as well. Cyeen was barely standing now. She laid on top of her bed before falling asleep.

Two knocks on the door. Good news, it was her. Cyeen unlocked the door to receive the food along with a small but heavy sack. This sack was going to be the solution to her problems. But opening the sack came second. Cyeen had already laid her eyes on the food. It was as nutritious as she suggested. A lot of bread along with chicken thighs, accommodated by rice on the side. In the blink of an eye the untouched foods turned into empty plates. Allowing her to finally get to opening the sack.

Cyeen carefully untied the ribbon. Gold coins, a lot of them in fact. All thanks to the deal she had mmad with one of her maids. The deal being; firstly, Cyeen would give the maid valuable gems, rings and bracelets for her to sell. Secondly, the maid would keep thirty percent of the gold and silver she received for each item she sold. Lastly she would bring the rest of the coins to Cyeen with the excuse of bringing her meals. A truly perfect plan. The only issue was that the maid couldn't sell them here in Enidia as the valuable items would be sniffed out by the guards and traced all the way back to the maid. That was why the maid took a whole week to come back. Cyeen didn't know what to do with the gold yet, but it would be useful in future to get what she wanted, however much it may be.

Three step sounds, hers. No other voices. It has always been quiet in here. Whether it was a big party or a measly family dinner. She found it all too quiet. How could people even put up with this silence? It didn't even matter. Her parents haven't visited her once since the last week. The weather looked like it could rain sometime this day. It was loud inside the clouds surely. Rain was loud. Thunder was loud too. She liked the rain. Not because it made grass smell good but it was because it drowned out the voice of silence. Her mirror looked a little foggy. The first month of spring was over like that? The people outside looked small, not like ants but still small. WHY AM I BEING DENIED OF EVERYTHING? The grass outside looked a little greener than usual, spring was a really colorful season. WHY? The door of her room had two scrathes on it. They were accidents from her childhood when she was first learning to summon weapons.

Who are you?

"Cyeen."

Where are you?

This was new,

"Prison"

Why are you?

"I... don't... know?"

Why do I bother?

The voice sounded more familiar than usual.

"You?"

Yes.

"Who are you?"

...

"Who are you."

...

Cyeen.
