Crags are vicious beasts that tower into the sky. The smallest one spotted in the recorded history of the Lunel Empire has been 20 feet tall. The largest one ever recorded was 200 feet tall. It's widely assumed that that historical document is exaggerated, since the largest one found nowadays is 75 feet. And given the fact that there's been no record of killing the beast, it's very likely it's myth.
Don't let their large size fool you though. Crags are wickedly fast, and wild animals are no match for them. Their seemingly insatiable hunger has led to meat shortages in the past in the Empire. The Lunel Empire seems to house the vast majority of them, but in the 4th Era, they assigned a new role to certain squadrons of soldiers required to kill Crags daily. This made sure the wild animals were able to reproduce, but the Lunel Empire made sure to house as many species as possible and manually breed them so no species would go extinct in the wild.
Crags look like humans with their skin missing. Their jaws are abnormally large, and they can open their mouths so large it looks like their heads split open. When researchers recovered their bodies, they found no bones inside them, leading to a usually dismissed rumor that they're being puppeteered.
This theory shouldn't be dismissed so easily however. Centuries ago in the 4th era, a researcher made a stunning discovery. There appeared to be some sort of spiritual residue inhabiting one of them. Not in the way most would think though. Since every living being has a soul, this would usually be brushed off, but this soul was actively being constrained in the body. As if it wasn't its original body.
Crags appear red due to their unique trait to constantly pump out blood. It's not like a human where the blood released is usually the right amount and circulates correctly. Instead, it pumps out blood abnormally fast, causing most to have burst limbs.
Crags are unable to heal, and paired with their seemingly infinite supply of blood, whenever they sustain a wound, blood constantly streams out. This is why when a limb bursts, no others follow suit, as the stream usually balances it out. It's not always the case, and some Crags die a while after appearing.
They seem to be unable to die from blood loss, but not from starvation or separating the head from the body. It's unknown how eating sustains it, but ones that go for times without food end up dying, so it's assumed that's the case.
They can crawl, screech, and run, and they're able to put themselves through hell to chase a pray. An example would be hiding in a small human sized cave. The thirty foot giant bashed himself to death trying to fit into the cave.
They can very easily control their limbs, and usually leave trails of blood wherever they go. The blood has a strange property where it evaporates after mere minutes, leaving no trace after that. They leave no footprints, and only leave trails when actively hunting.
Most information about this creature is provided from Mori Gell, a female researcher in the 4th Era. More information is still being recovered.
