"Why are you still here.. Cassie?"
Sunny could barely stand, he was using the wall as leverage, sadly for him the piece of coral wall his hand was on broke for some reason. Before he could fall Cassie caught him, wrapped his arm around her shoulder and beginning to walk.
"I knew you would end up taking your time, you really ought to ask for help sometimes you know."
As they got closer to the gate she spoke once more.
"You think you can walk on your own? I'll be right behind you."
Those words stuck out to him, he got an odd feeling coming upon him.
"Dont you know they say lady's first? I know I'm the prettiest boy you've ever laid your eyes on but im still a gentleman ya know!"
No laughter came from her.
As they got closer to the gate her grip on him tightened.. like she was preventing him from getting away. Something was extremely wrong. Not only was she being far too insistent on him going in first but her staying behind in general drives it in even more.
Sunny escaped from her tight grip, his legs trembling as he narrowed his eyes.
"Cut the bullshit! What's happening!"
Cassie didn't give a response, she put her head down before summoning weavers mask. It was kind of impressive how she was able to navigate without it he sho—
Suddenly he was tackled by her, his legs gave out instantly. Falling to the floor she straddled him instantly and pinned his hands above his head.
"W-Woah! Have some decency man--!"
Suddenly he felt a rope wrap around his wrists before she got up, dragging him to the gateway.
"Only one of us can escape.. the way this place works.. someone needs to be a battery or else the gate wont function."
His eyes grew wide as he realized what was happening, thrashing around he tried to break free but it was to no avail. He was out of essence, out of strength, and he couldn't think of anything to get out this situation!
"Stop it! Are you dumb?! I have a much better chance at surviving than you do! Plus there's no reason for you to do this!"
He screamed out protest after protest but every time he did they only got an inch closer to the gateway.
Sunny saw a piece of coral sticking up from the ground, throwing his wrists up he hooked onto it with his rope bound wrist before pulling it with what little force he could muster causing it to snap. He wasted no time throwing his body up and in turn throwing Cassie down before grabbing her.
"Put me down Sunny! Put me down now!"
He tried to lift her but his arms were in no condition to, so he resorted in grabbing her by the waist and pushing her into it.
Sadly for him she brought her elbow down on his head rattadiling his brain to a point where he couldnt think straight.
Before he could get his head in the game a fist came flying into his gut. When it landed he grabbed her arm and used his body weight to throw both of them into the ground. When they did the floor collapsed, they had to fall atleast 30 feet. His back was completely destroyed, he physically couldn't bring himself to move anymore. When they were falling he held Cassie in his arms that way she didn't get the full force of the fall.
He had already lost alot of blood, but now.. he attempted to crane his neck up but it refused to move. Cassie's trembling figure tried to stand but fell. In the end she climbed on his practically paralyzed body before lifting her shaky fist up.
And slamming it on his face.
Over and over her feather light punches landed on his face while tears soaked her face. She must have dismissed weavers mask, she slammed another fist into his face but when she did her body collapsed onto his as she broke into sobs.
This wasn't a fight of violence but rather a fight of love.
Both of them loved the other enough for them to be willing to sacrifice themselves, and they loved eachother enough to not let the other sacrifice themselves.
"You fool.. hick.. you utter fool!"
Sunny gave out a weak smile from his slowly dimming eyes.
"If you really loved me.. you would let be be your foo--"
Before he could finish she lifted her shaky head up before slamming it into his head.
Couldn't she be a little more gentle..?
"Please.. don't me do this.."
Sunny could barely hear what she was saying, he was more focused on the fact that he was most likely dying in this moment.
"I remmeber it.. You and Nephis."
As if telling him one final story she layed her head on his chest thats breaths were rapidly slowing down.
"I could never see your backs, yet I could feel your presence.. everywhere and always."
She rambled on about the first time they had met and up to the point where they had defended her against those abhorrent rumors.
"It was the first time I ever had something I wanted to become. It was the first time I'd ever admired someone like that."
"It was the first time I realized that it didn't matter that no one else believed in me."
"I just had to become someone that I could believe in."
A sad smile painted her face as she summoned weavers mask once more, as if getting a look at his face one last time.
Desummoning it she cried once more, before smiling, and then crying again, and then she brought her tear stained lips to his blood soaked lips.
"Do you know what they say about pearl divers other halfs..? I remember my mother reading me a story.. the pearl divers wife every time he went out to sea worried.. she prayed for him to come home safely despite knowing there was no gods that would listen.. she reminded that pearl diver many times that he was still human and yet.. and yet.."
Cassie shakily stood dragging his slowly dying corpse up the slowly collapsing coral stairs.
But by the time they got to the top she had collapsed. Now they were side by side, laying vertically to eachother. Their eyes, or did they? He supposed he would never know. Because the next words she spoke rung him back into his senses as his broken body moved on it's own as his world shattered.
"Go.. Lost from light."
