Chapter 63 - You Can Quit

Lucas raised an eyebrow. He understood more than he let on. The instinct to protect one's mate was primal, carved into the marrow of every wolf. He had lived it, breathed it, with his own Luna. He saw the same fire burning in Kade's eyes now. "Fine," Lucas said at last.

"You can quit. But tell me this, Kade—what will you say to her? Your mate clearly wants to be Ava's right hand, and she's willing to break herself into pieces to get there. And you?" His gaze sharpened.

"Your mate and mine… they are similar in more ways than one. So I understand. But if you don't want her to carry the guilt of you quitting, you better make sure she understands why."

Kade's throat worked. Lucas wasn't wrong.

Lucas turned. He paused only briefly, glancing back over his shoulder. A smirk curved his lips. "Imagine that," he murmured. "My Beta's little human impresses me more than my Beta."
