Chapter 42 - (A2) Control Panel

Albert: Why did your flies lead us to a boat??

Lin: Boats?? Why are they on land???

They had arrived at a dead end, surrounded by walls on every side except their backs. The room was filled with wooden boats, but no water body was nearby.

Chuck: I mean, there has to be a reason why he had boats in the first place..

Lin: I don't get it!! Did your flies mess up again??

Chuck: What do you mean again?? It never has failed us!!

Melissa: Should we just go around this place and find a more easier way to go out??

Chuck turned and looked at Melissa. The only girl who kind of supported him was alienating him. He felt saddened but he knew that it wasn't easy going from this place.

Max was on Lin's back barely awake. His eyesight was getting blurry by the minute, but he focused hard to his left. There was an electronic control panel, with wires leading to the walls. That's when he noticed small gaps in the walls. These weren't walls...they were steel doors!!

Max remembered that they were under the lake. And maybe if they pressed the right button, the steel doors will open, letting the water flow inside and they can row out in the boat..

Max: Guys!! Stop arguing....the control panel is right there!!!

Max tried his best to point at the panels.

Melissa: What is a control panel??

Max: Oh you gotta be kidding me!! Do none of you know what electricity is ??

He looked at all of them, and all of them just shook their head. This annoyed Max.

Lin: What exactly is electricity?? We've heard of cities, although..

Max: Oh shut up!! Get me to that thing on the wall to your left.

Lin obeyed without asking a question, which was unusual for him, but the times were trying, and they had less of it anyway. It was very dangerous to stay here. Rocks and pebbles kept falling from the ceiling towards them. Lin had let go of Max towards the panel and strted helping Albert in dealing with the oncoming assault of the rocks.

Meanwhile Max worked to open the gates. And the problem was he didn't know what to press. All buttons looked the same.

Max: Oh great...

Melissa: So..how does this "electricity" work??

Max: Um...I don't know...you press a button and it works I guess...

Max was annoyed on how little he knew about technology too. He was the only person present with the knowledge of the past and he was barely useful. After contemplating a lot, he was stuck between the two big buttons, one red and the other green. Usually the green would mean go, but he never had luck, so he wanted to press the opposite one.

Lin: You know...take your time....it's not like we are about to die OR ANYTHING!!

Lin shouted on top of his voice as he was getting frustrated.

Max: Just do your job!! I'll do mine!! It's not like we are gonna die from those tiny pebbles anyway...

As soon as Max said that, there was a huge noise in the ceiling. The wall on the top began cracking loudly. Water started flowing inside, like a waterfall. It was thin, but the stream was gradually gaining size, as the cracks in the wall all started to split.

Max: Of course, that would happen!!!!

Albert: Oh no...I think we are right under the lake!! We will drown if we don't move..

Chuck: Oh no!!!

Lin: It's all your fault. If you hadn't used that attack, the castle wouldn't have been coming down like this!!

Melissa: And if hadn't used it, we would be dead by that porcupine man!! We owe him!!

With all the back and forth, Max had to lock in again. He had do it. He didn't have enough energy in him to use any attack that could shatter the walls. He had to choose the buttons.

Max: Wait!! Albert!! Why don't you cut it with your sword??

Albert: I already tried...it didn't work for some reason.

Chuck: This place is full of mysteries....!!

Max bit his lip in hopelessness. He had to find a way. He didn't want to accidentally explode everyone. He carefully thought, as the water pressure increased and started filling the room.

Max: My gut's asking me to press green, because it's the right option...so.....

Max raised his arm and slammed on the red button. There was a huge sound, and two seconds later he started hearing gears shifting. Slowly the doors on the opposite side started opening. It was filled with water, but it led to the above world. The forest where Max had stepped foot in.

Max: Man, why is my gut always wrong???!!!
