Chapter 2 - the boy who never aged

Sometimes I wonder… is it really that easy to create a religion or make someone a 'god'?

I've been alive for 300 years. I've seen religions being born… and gods falling.

People have worshipped stones, then fire.

But what is the truth? Maybe… no one really knows.

A great man once said — "Humans only consider someone a god if they give them something."

And I believe… that's true.

Whether it's a human or an animal — if one day, an animal were to give bread, peace, or hope to a human… people would start worshipping it too.

Because for humans, making someone a god isn't difficult…

What's difficult… is seeing the truth hidden behind that god.

Humans wrap their pain, greed, and fear in the clothing of religion…

And then spill blood in its name.

My father used to say — "It's in human nature to believe they are better than others."

He was born in a religion where people were divided by caste — upper and lower.

The upper caste wouldn't even consider speaking to those of lower caste.

Religious books said it was the punishment of their past sins.

But if there really is a god…

Would he really discriminate against his own creation?

I look towards Islam — where everyone is considered equal, but even their holy books have clauses that legitimize discrimination against women… and justify the slaughter of animals.

Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Jainism… there are thousands of religions in the world.

Each has something good… and something wrong. None are perfect.

Every religion has a competitor. Each seeks ways to bring the other down.

So then… what does it mean?

I have only one question:

Why?

Why do humans create religion themselves…

And then fight to prove it right?

Even die for it?

My father, who was a kind-hearted man — when the sun vanished, the world was a scene of destruction.

People were running from their homes in fear.

The weather was changing rapidly.

That's when a child was seen crying by the roadside. That child was glowing.

People thought he was a demon, that he was the one who stole the sun.

At that moment, a 20-year-old boy appeared — he picked the child up in his arms and took him with him.

Maybe that boy remembered his own childhood… when people called him "lower caste" and looked down upon him.

Maybe that's why he decided to take care of the child.

Even then, people exiled him from the village.

They said — "Either kill the boy… or die yourselves."

Because of that, my father and I left the village…

And started living in a broken-down city called Novachrono.

My father often went to nearby villages for work…

And brought back food for us.

[Flashback – Kael's Childhood]

Kael:

Dad, you're leaving your lunchbox again without waking me…

Shinomi (smiling):

What else can I do? Watching you sleep… is better than every peaceful thing in the world, my son.

Kael (slightly sad):

Dad, can I ask you something?

Why am I like this?

Why do I have this mark on my forehead?

Why are people so afraid of me?

Shinomi:

Son, even I don't know that…

Humans always want to feel superior to others — whether it's through religion or status.

And when they can't do that… they start slandering and hating others.

Now come, eat this food…

I've also prepared hot water for your bath.

Kael:

Dad… was the world with the sun better than this one?

Shinomi (silent for a moment):

It's hard to say, son…

You can consider it 50-50.

Humans are never satisfied — they always want something better.

Shinomi:

Alright, I'm going now…

I'm getting late.

I'll bring something good for dinner tonight.

Kael:

Bye dad… love you.

Shinomi:

I love you too, Kael…

And after that day… my father never returned.

The next day, news came that the Delta Warriors of Solenda had massacred everyone in a nearby village —

Because they were against the Solenda religion… and worshipped another god.

When I found out… I broke from within.

From heart… mind… body…

I sat alone in a corner… in silence.

I kept sitting — for years… for centuries…

I was about to die from hunger…

And then I started falling into a deep darkness…

A darkness so deep… that two large glowing eyes appeared from below…

It was — Zorak.

A mythical beast.

A Super Spirit.

A Sea Serpent Dragon — a mythical black beast.

What even is a mythical beast spirit?

Creatures never seen before… or maybe ones that existed even before humans.

Wherever I go, deep within the ocean, many such dangerous mythical beasts are hidden…

With the power to destroy the entire world.

And the truth is… 90% of the ocean is still unexplored.

[Scene Shift – Present to Main Character]

On the edge of a bridge, Kael stood.

White hair, white eyes… and a glowing infinity mark on his forehead.

In his hands was a newspaper — with his WANTED poster on it:

Bounty – 1,000,000,000,000 (Dead or Alive)

Suddenly, a member of the Delta group attacks him from behind.

"Veemlets Attack! Thousand Dialects!!"

(Kael – Huh… insect-type attackers?)

As Kael reacts, two glowing mysterious eyes appear from the darkness behind him.

Zorak…? No… something else. Terrifying.

And in that moment…

All the veemlets began falling one by one.

As if someone had drained the life out of them.

The attacker, panting, says:

"I thought… it would be easy to kill you… Devil!"

Kael – "Tell me your name."

Attacker – "Ryan… my name is Ryan Kishimoto.

I came just after seeing your bounty.

But looks like this job is way out of my league.

But… I want to give you a warning —

Be careful…

Those people… they'll do anything to stop you from reaching the Temple of Truth."

(And just then… blood starts pouring from Ryan's mouth… and his hands… and then his body explodes… as if something inside had shattered him.)

Kael looks around…

Silence everywhere… just one thought in his mind:

"Temple of Truth — above those great mountains, where no one has ever climbed.

They say… after the sun vanished, that place disappeared too.

But… is it really true?

This was the 170th attack on me.

I always feel like someone… is lying to call me there.

Like they're looking for me.

But who…?"
