Chapter 25 - Meeting the Chief

The sentry led us towards the chief's tent, his strides steady as he knew every turn of this settlement by heart. As I followed behind him, I began to realize just how vast the camp truly was. At first, I thought it might have been a small nomadic tribe but the further we walked, the more my belief crumbled.

The Ashen Sands settlement sprawled outward like a maze, tents of different sizes close together. Their tones range from tan to orange to red. Smoke curled up from cooking pits while the low murmur of voices was all around us. The people here were not idle; I saw men mending weapons, women preparing dried meats, and children playing between tents.

There were eyes following as we passed by. Some gazes were wary, brows drawn tight while others looked on with open curiosity.
