Chapter 17 - Doing What It Takes

A white giant slams its large hammer down on the green barrier covering the massive temple, and the damage bounces back to the giant, throwing him backwards.

"How many times has this happened?" Nash asked the villager standing around him.

One of them answers him. "No matter how many times we try to destroy this temple with energy beams, and spears, the barrier only bounces the attacks back at us!"

"That's frustrating," Nash agreed.

Nash draws more giants on an empty page in his notebook. He snaps his fingers, and five giants hop from the page. They run toward the barrier, lifting their giant hammers, and they slam them down on the barrier.

Cracks occur on the ground beneath the barrier, and the impact sends the giants in different directions. Nash snaps his right fingers, and every giant bursts into a puddle of ink.

The barrier not breaking drives Nash to be pissed off. He clenches his hands as he thinks of another plan to use to destroy the barrier.

As his irritation grows further, his irritation pushes him to draw two giants standing on 200 feet. They lift their hammers, and Nash looks at every villager standing beside him. Nash inhales deeply, and yells, "NOW! ATTACK THE BARRIER!"

The giants strike the barrier as the villagers fire energy beams from their fingertips. The energy beams combine into a massive beam, striking the barrier but the beam bounces back at them. Nash releases two fat giants standing at 100 feet, and together, they block the beam with their bodies.

The villagers jump out of their path, and Nash looks up, and the two giants that he summoned are lying on the ground. Nash groans and shakes his head. "I can't break the barrier!"

Nash is looking at a distance, and suddenly, he sees a little boy reaching for a wooden ball stuck on a branch. He continues watching the boy, debating himself if he'll help him but another boy arrives, and he's taller than the first boy.

"That's it," Nash got struck by an idea, "I need to call for a strong backup. If the barrier doesn't break from my drawings, that's where I need to evacuate the villagers to make my plan work!"

The sun begins to drift from the sky, and Nash gazes at the lines of villagers being escorted by men in white metallic armour. He watches the villagers, one by one, climbing towards the back of the trucks.

A boy among them didn't climb the truck, and he simply looked at one of the armoured men and asked kindly. "Where is Big Sister Elesia? We haven't seen her, we can't go without her."

The armoured man feels a tap on his armoured shoulder and turns his head beside him, meeting the stare of Ivan, a young man with long red hair which is spiky, his brows are red with one of them sliced in the middle, and his jaw is remarkable.

Additionally, he's wearing a coat with red stripes which is covering his dark polo, he's wearing black pants, and a pair of dark boots.

Ivan looks at the armoured man, and he shakes his head. The man clad in the white armour walks away as Ivan gazes at him.

After the armoured man disappears, Ivan puts his hands on his legs and bends forward to the boy's eye level. "Listen, kiddo, we're still finding Elesia. Be a good boy, and ride the truck, stop acting like a baby."

The boy flees towards the back of the truck. Ivan looks at each of the villagers whose eyes are staring at him, and he narrows his eyes as veins pop on his forehead.

"What are you looking at, huh?! We're doing this for your sake!" Ivan placed his hands on his waist.

No response comes from the villagers, and they all keep staring at him. Those stares are calm but Ivan doesn't care about them, and he spits on the floor.

The engine of the trucks roars, and they begin to move. Ivan continues watching the trucks, and they disappear from his sight. He turns around and faces Nash riding the 50-foot eagle.

"What?!" Ivan retorted to Nash's stare.

At that moment, Ivan knows what Nash will tell him next, and Ivan is knowledgeable of Nash's judging gaze.

"Scaring that kid is unnecessary, and you know that," Nash told him without showing sympathy.

"I was only doing that because he might cause a trantum which can be a hindrance to their rehabilitation!" Ivan yelled at Nash.

Nash shakes his head slowly. "Even if they're at the brink of drowning, you shouldn't have shown them such an attitude. We guardians are their protectors, and that includes being their family. As a part of their family, they are relying on us!

"Who would be happy to face a guardian with an attitude like yours, huh? If they manage to blast you away with their combined beam, I'll let them do it, in that way, you'll act kind to them."

Ivan waves his hand as if he's shoving him away. "Okay, attorney, you've told me what I need to know. Enough lecturing me, and let's proceed with your plan."

Now, they face the giant dome encasing the massive stone temple. Ivan moves his head from side to side, letting out cracks from his bones. He stretches his arms and looks beside him. "You plan to use our powers to their full potential?"

Nash keeps looking at each page of his notebook, without stopping, he says, "Use all of your firepower, and don't hesitate."

Ivan raises his red brow. "If I collapse, and monsters attack any cities, can you handle all of them?"

Nash gives him a stare that makes him shiver playfully. Ivan chuckles and points his index finger at the notebook in Nash's grasp. "I know how capable you are, and if I do collapse, I leave my duty to you until I regain my consciousness."

Ivan grabs a part of his coat and pulls the coat away from his polo shirt. He tosses the coat high in the air. A corona of fireballs appears above his head, and slowly, he ascends from the soil. He towers on the dome, and the corona of fireballs on his head spins faster.

He fires a wave of fireballs at the dome but the fireballs bounce in different directions which causes a groan from Ivan. "This dome stinks."

Nash cups his hands on his mouth, and yells, "Aya made that! Be respectful!"

A flash of memories fills Ivan's head. He smiles as he envisions the wide smile on Aya's face. Ivan raises his hand, and the corona of fireballs moves towards his hand.

"Aya is a nice friend. Heck, she treated me to a restaurant that served sizzling sisig, and empanadas. But if this is the last thing that will make me remember her, I must destroy it."

Ivan sniffs. "You'll like that, right? To see us do the right thing from where you are."

The corona transforms into a colossal fireball which is enough to cover a small town. Nash brings out three giants from a page in his notebook, and those three giants are standing on 200 feet while holding hammers twice their size.

With all of his might, Ivan throws the fireball down at the barrier, and with that, Nash claps his hands. All three giants slam their hammers against the fireball, pushing it further against the fireball.

"Through the impact of this fireball, the dome will be destroyed!" Nash said, "This will give way for us to arrest that murderer."

The fireball flies backward, and the hammers of the giants melt quickly. Ivan glares at the fireball while it disappears into the sky.

Nash becomes disappointed at the failure of his plan, and in response, he stomps his foot on the ground. His eyes narrow as his hands clench. "I can't believe it!"

Ivan lands beside him, and he almost falls but he regains his balance. He feels the moisture forming on his forehead, and beads of sweat are dripping from his face.

"We have no other choice," Nash accepted the situation with a heavy heart, "we can call for strict surveillance of this dome until it breaks apart. I have a gut feeling that her accomplices might come into this world, our world."

Ivan nods in agreement. "Fine, I'll go back to the city, captain."

Nash moves his head towards him with a calm gaze. "I haven't heard that for a while."

Ivan becomes annoyed. "No! Damn! I was just respecting you for being calm in this situation. If I were you, I would have burned this entire forest."

Nash rubs his chin with his index finger. "I wonder, did her accomplices arrive or are they just planning to come?"

The bush rustles, and they quickly divert their eyes from it. A woman steps out of the bushes, a woman named Felicia, who stands at 5 feet. Her eyes are purple, her hair is short and dyed in the color of golden yellow. Her clothing style consists of a multi-colored knit sweater that has specks of yellow, orange, and pink.

For her bottom part, she's wearing a dark high-waist tactical cargo pants with a pair of black combat boots.

"Why is the hamster here?" Ivan looked at her with a smirk.

The woman shakes her head while rubbing her forehead, and she looks at him with an annoyed gaze.

"I am not a hamster! I'm here because I saw Ivan leaving the classroom," she smiled widely, showing her white teeth, "tell me the rest of what happened because I already watched both of you attacking the green dome."

"You cutting class brat." Nash flashed a teasing smile at Ivan.

"Hey! I came here because you called me," Ivan retorted.

Felicia nudges Ivan's waist with a grin. "I know you had that naughtiness in you."

Meanwhile, Nicholas and Elesia are standing away from each other while panting. Elesia swings her scythe in a circle. "Nicholas, you need to develop a technique."

"A what?" Nicholas asked.

"A technique! Every guardian has a technique to use in a fight." Elesia explained to him with her hands thrusting forward and backward.

A surge of wind emerges from the back of Nicholas. The wind forms into a large head of an eagle and speaks with modesty. "I'll lend you the techniques that I know."

Juan's eyes widen after seeing Gale, his food slips into his throat, causing him to cough. While he's suffering, Nicholas and Elesia are listening to every word coming from Gale. Nicholas turns around, and his eyes grow wide upon seeing Juan rolling on the ground.

"G-Guys!" Juan held his throat tightly while coughing.

"He's choking!" Nicholas ran toward him.

Elesia lifts Juan by his waist, and Nicholas suddenly thinks of a bold idea. Juan stares at him, and Nicholas begins covering his hand with wind.

"Are you ready?!" Nicholas smiled.
