Under the pitch-black night, Dabai struggled to run. He didn't even know where he was going, nor where he had ended up. In short, he kept running desperately.
The thorns and weeds around him, the tall trees and vines gradually faded away, and the endless mountains and ridges in the distance also slowly became smaller.
Until finally, everything disappeared.
I don't know how long he ran. Dabai was so tired that he could hardly breathe. But his mother's last words lingered in his heart. He could no longer deny that his mother had left him forever.
Finally, after climbing over a steep mountain, the young Dabai could no longer resist the endless fatigue and hunger. Everything around him disappeared in an instant, and he completely fainted.
I don't know how long it took, but when Dabai opened his eyes in a daze, the sky was still dark.
It had woken up. It wasn't dead, but the immense hunger had left it unable to move, and its body was covered in wounds.
It was still too young, after all, lacking even the strength to catch prey.
However, when it raised its head to see what lay ahead, it was stunned.
Before it stood a figure!
A human!
That was the very human who had killed its mother!
An angry yet childish roar rang from its throat, but even it felt it was too weak to frighten the foe before it.
It tried to pounce and bite, but it had no strength left. Its wounds were still bleeding, and the intense pain made its body tremble slightly.
The human before it didn't seem frightened either. After examining it for a long moment, it stood still.
He held a bow and arrow in his hand, a scimitar hanging from his waist.
Dabai struggled feebly, even beginning to wonder whether he would shoot it with his bow and arrow or stab it with his scimitar. Either way, it would surely be painful.
It had no idea what the man before it was thinking, and it couldn't vent its anger and hatred with force. Now, it could only wait for death!
However, to Dabai's immense surprise, after waiting for a long time, the man before it never drew his bow and arrow or unsheathed his scimitar. Instead, he placed a bag on his back on the ground, fumbled inside, and pulled out a half-grown hare!
Then he took out his scimitar, slashed the carcass of the half-grown rabbit, and then cut it in half at the abdomen. Then, before Dabai could understand anything, the man grabbed the cut rabbit and threw it in front of it.
"Eat it! Once you're full, leave quickly."
The man spoke, but Dabai couldn't understand human language. The only thing he remembered was the word "kill."
The man seemed a little surprised to see Dabai didn't move, but after a moment's thought, he reached out and pushed the rabbit forward a little further, almost touching Dabai's nose.
At this point, Dabai understood: he was giving it food!
Instantly, something in Dabai's mind flipped completely. Humans, could humans behave like this?
Humans were the most brutal enemy, Dabai had always believed, but today, a human was actually giving it food!
While this was a world-shattering event, Dabai was still too young. His understanding was limited, seemingly limited to what his parents had taught him.
The hunger in his stomach quickly overcame the sight of food. He finally moved, opened his mouth, and bit into the food.
Seeing him finally start to tear into the food, the man before him smiled in wonder.
Dabai desperately bit into the food, growling with his head down, his eyes fixed on the man before him.
Why do this person's eyes resemble the lake in my hometown that my mother had described?
After finishing his meal, Dabai finally felt some strength return. He prepared to stand and continue running, his mother's words still ringing in his ears: he wanted to run, run far, far away.
But as he tried to stand, he felt a sudden, excruciating pain in his hind legs. He barely managed to lift half his body before tumbling backward.
It was then that Dabai realized one of his legs had been broken.
He struggled to his feet and looked back. His leg was covered in blood, and the broken bone was visible.
Seeing that he couldn't get up, the man seemed to hesitate for a moment, then walked towards him.
As he approached, he held a piece of cloth in his hand.
Dabai wanted to pounce and bite him. He had the strength now, but suddenly realized he shouldn't have done so. He had given him his strength.
Dabai's eyes flickered with infinite confusion, but the man had already reached out and grabbed its leg, examined it carefully, then sprinkled some powder of an unknown substance on it and finally wrapped it with the cloth in his hand.
"Since you can't run anymore, come with me."
The man said, bending down and picking up Dabai, then walked in one direction.
Dabai's throat was still roaring, but he couldn't bite it down. He began to feel confused, infinitely confused.
Somewhere in his trance, he fell asleep.
In his sleep, Dabai suddenly dreamed of the beautiful hometown his mother had told him about.
