Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 – Fractures in the Family

Sabrina'sPOV

The Amari mansion was too quiet. The kind of quiet that made your own footsteps sound like an offense. I stood in the center of the sitting room, my hands folded in front of me, trying to look calm even though my palms were damp.

My father sat in his usual armchair, back straight, jaw locked. His anger wasn't loud yet, but it sat in the air like a storm waiting to break. My mother was beside him, wringing her hands like she always did when she knew she couldn't fix something. And then there was Lovett Voss — Zayn's mother — poised elegantly on the edge of the sofa, her sharp eyes flicking between us like she was watching a chess game.

Zayn was across from me, his elbows resting on his knees, head bowed slightly, expression unreadable. He hadn't looked at me once since I walked in.

"How far along?" my father asked, his voice cold.

"Two months," I replied, lifting my chin just a fraction.

The disbelief in his eyes was like a slap. "So you're telling me that even while Sofia was engaged, you were seeing Zayn… and were already pregnant with his child?"

His voice cracked like a whip in the air, but I didn't flinch. Why should I? I was carrying the heir to the Voss family. That gave me a kind of power — whether anyone wanted to admit it or not.

"So what if Sofia was married to Zayn now?" he pressed.

I could have stayed silent. I could have tried to soften the blow. But the words slipped out, sharp and deliberate. "But she isn't… because she kissed her fiancé's brother on her engagement day."

His eyes flashed. For a moment, I thought he might actually get up and strike me.

"Is it not better to kiss her fiancé's brother," he shot back, voice rising, "than to actually get pregnant for her sister's fiancé?"

My mother tried to interject, her voice a weak, trembling thing. "Please, let's not—"

"Be quiet," my father barked, turning his fury on her. "This is your fault. You raised them. You taught them nothing about shame."

My mother's face crumpled, but she said nothing more.

I straightened my shoulders. "Sofia kissed Khalid and you got her married to him," I said, my voice steady. "Now I'm pregnant for Zayn… so what will be my fate?"

The silence that followed was suffocating.

And then Zayn finally spoke. His tone was colder than I had ever heard it. "Terminate it."

My breath caught. "Excuse me?"

He didn't look at me. His gaze stayed fixed somewhere on the floor. "Sabrina, I'm not ready for this child."

Something inside me snapped. "You're not ready? You—"

"Nonsense," Lovett's voice cut through mine, smooth and firm but carrying steel underneath. "You want her to terminate my first grandchild? The heir to the Voss family?"

Zayn's head came up, eyes flashing briefly at his mother. "Mother, this isn't about—"

"It's exactly about that," she interrupted. "Do you have any idea how hard I've worked to secure our family's standing? Do you think heirs grow on trees?"

The room descended into chaos — voices overlapping, accusations thrown like knives. My father pacing, my mother trying to calm him, Zayn insisting he wasn't ready, Lovett arguing that this was fate, a gift, an opportunity.

Through it all, I stood very still. My hands rested on my stomach, almost without thinking. For the first time since this started, I felt something fierce and unshakable. I wasn't just a scandal anymore. I was carrying something none of them could ignore, no matter how much they wanted to.

When the shouting dulled into tense breathing, Lovett spoke again, her tone final. "This is how it will be. You will marry her."

Zayn's eyes met mine for the first time that day. They were unreadable, but there was no warmth there.

My father sighed heavily, like the decision was already made for him. "Fine. The engagement will be in a week."

And just like that, my future was decided — not by love, not by choice, but by the weight of a name and the child growing inside me.

Hajara'sPOV

Damn. What am I hearing?

Zayn… getting engaged to Sabrina?

This Voss family is seriously a soap opera. First one brother marries a woman who was engaged to the other, and now… both their sons married to two stepsisters? If this were a TV show, people would say the plot was too unrealistic.

Anyway, I'm not keeping this to myself. No way. Sofia might not have heard yet — and if I know her, she'd rather get this news from me than from some nosy stranger.

I snatched my phone from the table and scrolled to "Mrs. Voss" — yeah, that's how I saved Sofia's number. Don't ask why, it just feels fancy.

It rang twice before she picked up. I didn't even give her a chance to say hello.

"Zayn is getting engaged to Sabrina!" I blurted out in one breath.

There was a pause — then her voice came back, sharper than usual. "Hajara! I just got married, do you want to burst my eardrums?"

"Wait," she added quickly. "Who did you say is getting engaged?"

I grinned, even though she couldn't see me. "Your ex-fiancé… and your stepsister."

There was a sharp inhale on her end. "How come?"

Oh, there it was — the gossip tone. I could hear it in her voice.

"Sabrina's pregnant," I said, drawing out the words for maximum drama.

"Whaaaaat?!" she screamed so loud I had to pull the phone away from my ear. So much for me being the loud one.

I rolled my eyes with a laugh. "And you say I'm the one bursting eardrums."

She giggled, and for a moment it felt like we were just two friends sharing harmless gossip. Then I couldn't resist asking, "So… how's the honeymoon with Khalid going?"

That's when I heard his voice in the background — deep, teasing, and absolutely not helping the situation.

"We'll soon give you a cute godchild," he called out.

And then — click. Call ended.

I froze, my eyes wide.

That means…

Oh. My. God.

Khalid did it.
